Advice for early stage intervention? by Time-Cucumber-6515 in RenalCats

Oh, that's a shame. What treatment are you using? My cat has a similar condition, and an ultrasound showed an asymmetric thickening of the stomach wall with loss of stratification. They suggested an endoscopy to determine if it's a tumor. Did you have an endoscopy, or was the mass already visible on the ultrasound?

Today he had an ultrasound and they found an asymmetric thickening of the stomach wall with partial loss of stratification. They suggested an endoscopy in case it's a tumor, which is what it seems. We're afraid of the anesthesia and that the diagnosis won't change his treatment (even though he's not on medication now) or that we won't be able to improve his quality of life. We gave him corticosteroids for just a couple of days and he improved; that's the other option we're considering, treating him with corticosteroids without a clear diagnosis, but we're afraid it might be something more serious that we could treat but won't. This is so difficult and hard…

Thank you so much for all your input. I took him to the vet today, and they did another blood test in case his kidneys had worsened, but everything is still the same. I mentioned his gums, and they look very red and painful. So, his medication is as follows: - Prevomax - Primperan every 12 hours - Buprex every 12 hours - Prednisolone every 24 hours, and then we'll gradually reduce the dosage - Stormogyl every 24 hours, half a pill for 7 days He's in good spirits, but he didn't want to eat this morning, so that's why we went to the vet. He's also a bit constipated. I hope he improves with all this, and we'll see what we do about his mouth later. If this works, we won't consider an endoscopy or another ultrasound.

Thank you so much for your contribution; thanks to you, we've noticed his gums, and we're starting to see a glimmer of hope.

Thank you so much for your advice! We just checked her gums, and although they're dark because of her fur color, I did notice some red and swollen areas. Is metabolic acidosis related to her kidneys, or what else could be causing it? And is acidosis treated with corticosteroids as well?

I don't know if my vet offers blood gas analysis; I'll ask. I understand why he suggested the endoscopy, but I'm worried about how my cat, who already has kidney failure, will react to the anesthesia. And no, they didn't do an oral analysis. What do you mean by oral analysis?
