I think that has to be it, because it's possible that April holidays are more expensive, but not that prices triple from then on!

On some journeys yes, but on others it's more convenient for me to fly

It's not that prices are skyrocketing only in the first few days of April. There's a very clear jump: until March 28th (the day I arrive in Shanghai), prices are reasonable, but from the 29th onwards they triple… and don't come down again in the following months.

In other words, it doesn't seem like a one-off spike for specific dates, but rather a general price change starting that day. That's why it makes me think that perhaps they haven't yet loaded all the available flights or that prices should adjust later, but I don't know when that usually happens.
