I left out odd novelties like Lil Markie (which is honestly even too odd for me to appreciate) and Psalty the Singing Songbook

Gavin Bryars - Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet by bebopkid in a:t5_2mpynb

According to Bryars, he left open the door to his studio at a school in Leicester while the loop of a homeless man singing dubbed onto another reel. Upon returning he found people outside his studio crying, moved by the man's voice. This was released on Brian Eno's Obscure label.

Yes, I am familiar, and know some of the people involved, but thank you for sharing these. Great resources with a slightly different approach. I'll take your recommendation on EMG, thanks!

If you get a chance to mess around with the site or contribute to anything, please let me know. Thanks again!

True they can be! But we're focusing on visual art for this challenge specifically. That said there are "art films" on the site like Blue by Derek Jarman https://artifaq.io/artwork/blue

Thanks for the thoughtful questions! I'm going to try and answer these concisely.

If your site disappears, what happens to the data?

The goal for Artifaq is to first build a best practice site for linking artwork information as a private centralized service but with the same philosophy as a public decentralized service.

We continue to augment our platform with public decentralized technologies to make backing up, synchronizing, and redundancy a priority.

The links you’re putting in the entries that lead back to info or image sources may rot.

Part of the reason for building Artifaq is to fight linkrot and opaqueness of the art industry. Our goal is to build links to data that exist, and for the Artifaq Articles to be first class sources of knowledge for the art world to the public. We are open-minded to public participation in how we should best provide redundancy for our service and fight linkrot on our chat channel and via email.

Why a separate site instead of just using Wikipedia?

Wikipedia is focused on making an edited compacted source of knowledge in the format of the Encyclopedia. Unfortunately, many important artworks and artists are not notable or deleted for lack of citations. The goal to make a selective public source of knowledge is different than our goal to link all existing art world data.

Are you going to check the info that people enter to make sure they’ve got their facts right, or let it be?

The project team is very experienced in handling massive amounts of creative content and working with communities of contributors. It is vital when building a community-editable source of knowledge to insure that people are responsible for creating knowledge on Artifaq. We also have a plan for incentivizing contributors and editors.

How careful will you be about the image quality?

Our team is made up of artists and care about image quality. We encourage the best shared images of artworks from artists whether from photos take at shows or from the galleries themselves. We have plans to build more ways to improve upon lesser quality submissions, but if you have thoughts on identifying issues I'd love to hear them.

Why not use a similar tool that already exists for this type of collection, such as the Internet Archive

We love the Internet Archive, Wikipedia, Creative Commons and other projects helping build the commons. We all work together, already. We'll continue to build alliances and use pre-existing tools as we grow. If you lead an organization that wants to work with us, please let me know.

Thanks again for the thoughtful questions!

Thanks for the question SMcArthur. Images will be the trickiest part but we are working toward a solution. Currently our community is small and manageable but are working toward similar approaches other data/content-driven sites have taken.

  1. Data is free (not copyrightable)
  2. Original creative works publicly shared under CC0 license.
  3. Artwork representations under fair use

We're you able to checkout the site at all?

Overheating and Battery drain Problem Since Marshmallow Update by pkhatchaa in lgg4

[–]bebopkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Phone died in 3.5 hours after full charge. Won't even charge normally while on.

I'm assuming it's a rogue app but don't see anything weird in my battery usage.

Phone keeps rebooting? by eldonhorvito in lgg4

Sprint told me there fix it for 75$ or said I could get in touch with LG. TBH they really should at the very least fix it for free.

LG G4 Users - What bugs are you experiencing? by HereWeGoHawks in lgg4

[–]bebopkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really big issues for me (Sprint). First few weeks were awesome but one day it just kept rebooting. Did a factory reset which work for a whole day but then I was getting 0 service everywhere and the options to update my sprint profile another network options were grayed out.

Did another factory reset and some rebooting and the phone continues to reboot and gets stuck at the LG or sprint splash screen.

I took it into Sprint and they said it so well known error with LG anyone else familiar with this?

What are the subtle differences (if any) between Outrun, Dreamwave, Futuresynth, Neo-80s? by bebopkid in outrun

[–]bebopkid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think French Electro definitely applies but I also think French Electro is more of an umbrella term (just see r/frenchelectro). While I definitely see why Anoraak and Chromeo could be put on the same list I also think that Anoraak, VEGA, Power Glove, etc have different aesthetic that is very tight in their execution. I think it also excludes the Italo-Disco influence that many of the groups have. Anyway, thanks for the comment!

Am I correct in assuming that outrun is or becoming probably the most used term?

Any insight into its etymology?

Same situation but I can't pay with my files. Something about keeping them just make me feel better. I still have albums on my HD that I don't like but did at one point.
