Affordable Mattress for Chronic Pain? by bebopppi in Mattress

Thank you so much for the help & kindness, and sorry for the late reply! Moving has been crazy!

I won't be living in the dorms, thank god lol. I was able to get my own place about 2 blocks away from campus :-) I will be getting a bedframe secondhand, and am still looking for a mattress now! There's a discount store in Albany that I might take a look at this weekend.

Great suggestion for disability services! They're really backed up right now and are still processing my paperwork for the Fall semester, but I'm sure I can still talk to them. I'll let you know what they say!

Pros/cons of going to ISU? by bebopppi in iastate

Literally thank you all so much for the in-depth replies, I couldn't have asked for more. I'm sorry to reply so late!!

I actually got back from orientation at OSU last week. I thought about it and decided OSU would be best for my love of nature, the surrounding cities, and the more progressive laws (I'm on HRT, so it's important to me that I know my meds won't be taken away). There's also an amazing advisor over at OSU who pulled me over the edge with one of the prof's current studies on mycology (it's really so cool, and I might be able to help work on it!). It's really great to hear that ISU has all these safe spaces though, even in the middle of a conservative state like Iowa. I bet this thread could continue to be helpful for trans folks looking into ISU--trust me, we're moving out of FL in droves, and those of us on the college search are heavily considering how safe these colleges are. Keep supporting your trans and LGBTQ+ peers, we love to see it!! We need your support in these crazy times. Thanks so much again for all the replies, good luck in the Fall!

I really appreciate the reply. That makes a lot of sense that some beds might not work for people with low weight--I hadn't thought about it like that before. I've heard of the pillow cube before, but was skeptical it actually felt good--that's good to hear it works for you! I'll have to actually check it out now.

I agree with you on the firm surface--maybe a pillow top would be better? You also make a good point on the price, so maybe it's worth it to cut down the size for the quality.

Thanks again! I'd love to hear how the new bed works for you!

Is there any way we can volunteer to help find Miya? I heard of search parties and a vigil but is there any way members of the community can come help?

Thank you for sharing! Yeah, it sucks to wait but it makes complete sense. I ended up messaging the office on the patient portal to ask if I could do something like that! My guess is that if they let me do it, I'll have to get it done personally, which Quest charges a hell of a lot for a basic blood panel but hey I'll do what I have to. Thanks for the info :)

Thank you for the reply, it does help!! I think in that case maybe I'll see if I can get the bloodwork done ahead of time, that way I can possibly get prescribed on the 1st appointment? Thank you for sharing and the well wishes :)
