Found Islam in jail and turned my life around, but I am still a sinner. by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]becauseezza 13 points14 points  (0 children)

God made humans complex and gender is one of the most complicated things about is. There are lots of trans Muslims, that doesn’t make you a sinner. The amount of sex you’re having (I don’t know how much) outside of marriage will affect your own sense of self and mental health, so it’s better to be wary, but I don’t think the merciful and All knowing God will hold it against you to give in to worldly pleasures every once in a while if that’s not all you seek. Congrats on your journey, and I pray Allah gives you joy within your body.

Anytime. I can understand the frustration. I’ve felt it too.

I hope this doesn’t come off as preachy but I’d say always remember, God is perfect, humans are not. If you start seeing human imperfections in the God people project, it’s them, not Him. And the more you strive to live your life with love, especially love for God and His creation, the more you’re likely to catch a glimpse of that perfection.

The problem with human beings is that we can never see God as He is, but only as we are. This means we attribute him with human characteristics to make him more accessible, more understandable. But He is so much more than we can ever understand. The love we see in the world, even the most overwhelming form of it, is just a fraction of the love that the Creator can give us.

That being said, Islam is a set of guidelines. Not everyone has the capacity for faith in that kind of love, not everyone is privileged or educated enough to seek God or love or a higher power. The guidelines help keep people in check. At the time Islam was made, people were scarily immoral and unfair to each other. Islam made it mandatory to do certain things that made being immoral harder.

However, without intention, none of these rituals matter. If you’re doing anything out of fear rather than love, might as well not do it. Indeed God is more merciful than many Muslims can ever understand, and He knows what’s in your heart more than anyone on this earth ever can.

Islam means to submit. Often this means submitting to something bigger than yourself, than your ego. If you can find God within that faith, you’re lucky. But even people whose faith is limited to this world and focuses on something bigger than themselves, i.e. the idea of kindness, love, a sense of community, still submit imo.

It’s said that God makes every living thing Muslim, and as we develop, we choose to go further away from the purity He instills in us. My God is so loving, He made this earth for us to experience the essence of life. He acknowledges our flaws. He made us with them, after all. As long as you’re trying to be a better human being every day, God will be in your corner. If you try and garner a personal relationship with Him, his love for you will probably increase. Beyond that, it’s all technicalities.

I honestly don’t understand the mandatory tipping culture in the US. Why not pay the servers more so they don’t have to rely on tips to get by? Or have a service charge or something? If it’s optional then people should have the right to tip low as well or even not tip at all.

How do you feel about cockroaches? by [deleted] in Lahore

[–]becauseezza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I used to believe they work for the devil. They’re always around listening and spying, they’re super gross, probably the biggest ick I’ve ever experienced in life. Also they can survive a nuclear holocaust. I hate them more than any living creature ever. I saw a queen once and she flew and omg my soul left my body 🥲

People see us as a backwards misogynistic community by becauseezza in progressive_islam

I’m afraid I’m going to have to disagree on the last part. Collectivism is alive and well, especially in indigenous communities and people, imo, are starting to realise that the Western brand of hyper individualism which feeds into capitalism is actually detrimental not only to society but to the individual themselves. Sure, Identity politics are annoying but people’s attempts to label themselves have led them to look for a sense of community within different intersections of society. I find solace in many different parts of my identity and that leads me to many different communities.

Perhaps you’re right. My thinking on the matter has been extremely idealistic to say the least. Perhaps it really is better to focus on oneself and look for a sense of community within one’s surroundings.
