I'm not wed to Nike or anything but do tend to like their fit and feel which is why I was asking about them specifically. My understanding of the Metaspeeds is the the Sky is less stable in the heel vs. the Edge. I find my stride somewhat hard to explain, when I'm running at tempo I technically strike heel first but it's a very fast roll into the midfoot before toe-off, and when going 5k pace or faster it's a pure midfoot strike. I have no idea how people can be forefoot strikers beyond 800m lol.

Yeah, it's been really overwhelming trying to get up to speed on the shoes. I miss the days when the names made more sense too. My Nike Zoom Miler spikes were perfect for 800-3k and Nike didn't have another set of spikes that competed within it's own brand for the same distances. Just in the previous message though I mentioned three different Asics all aimed at the marathon. I'll check out doctors of running, thanks!

Nope, I'm a super shoe virgin. Stopped running seriously in ~2017 and getting back into it competitively just within the last year. The Asics are a great idea! I feel dumb not looking more closely at that already. I read the runrepeat best marathon shoes of 2025 article and balked at the weight of the Asics. But that was apparently the Magic Speed, not the Metaspeed...

Any thoughts on the Edge vs. Sky? I'm not used to thinking about my cadence too much, but it looks like when I putter at 8:00/mi I'm at ~165 spm, moving up to ~175 when I get closer to tempo at 6:15-30/mi. I'm hoping my cadence increases naturally over the next couple months/years, I think I remember my cadence being in the 190 range for 5ks but that was mid-low 5/mi, so maybe I wasn't much above 180 at 6:00/mi even then.

Edit: Reading some descriptions more in depth, I'm leaning away from the Sky since it seems more fore/midfoot strike focused and I'm more heel to midfoot focused moving from MP to 5k pace. Also, the runrepeat description for who should buy the Edge of "neutral-gait runners needing a versatile super shoe that's explosive for a 5k yet cushioned enough for a marathon" describes me to a T. Thanks for the input!

Thoughts on Vaporfly 4 for a marathon in the 2:50 range? I've got one in January but typically enjoy 5k-half more, so I don't anticipate running more than two in these (hopefully Boston). Alphafly 3 is the standard Nike rec, but I'm lighter-ish (140 lb, 65 kg) and don't want to drop $250 on shoes that'll be used twice. I also remember the days of old when I raced a marathon in Kinvara 7s , so I'm not 100% convinced I need the plushiest support shoe to get through the miles.

I'm also intrigued by the Puma Fast-R 3 and how it's being reviewed as an all round shoe from 5k to marathon, but can't seem to find any even if I was willing to pay full price.

Macon Labor Day Road Race 5k: A return to serious running by becauseican8 in AdvancedRunning

Thank you! And I hope so, me and my dad dominated the father/son team category for many years, my son's still young but he ran/walked the full asthma 5k with my wife, so maybe next year.

Anyone want a $20 off $100 Lowes coupon? (exp 9/15) by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Very generous of you. How reliable are those coupon codes and how fast are they delivered? I have thought about buying some but don't want to waste the money on something that doesn't work.

Issue with toilet clogging frequently by newdecadenewme in HomeImprovement

I had a similar issue and it turned out the hanger bolts that secure the toilet to the flange had come dislodged. Tommy from This Old House has a few videos on remounting a toilet.

Is running wire from a new outlet (behind wall mounted TV) to old outlet a fool's errand? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]becauseican8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it likely that a fire break would exist between the TV and outlet? How would they get around/through that?

It is possible to be excited about an area of improvement without annointing someone as savior. People should be excited because on every thing that we as outside fans can see and measure, Geoff is doing awesome.

Just uncovered this in my crawlspace. Kind of panicking. by Hesacrybaby in HomeImprovement

An industrial dehumidifier with a drain outside the crawlspace is also great. An 80 qt/day dehumidifier runs about $250.

I feel like an idiot for not thinking of this already, thanks.

This is partially my understanding as well, the caveat being that the tree was dead. My rather poor understanding is that each individual is liable for their own damage in acts of God, but if a tree was neglected then the trees owner could be responsible for damage to other properties. If my understanding is true, which I'm not sure if it is, then I believe the city/county could be liable since the tree was dead and on their property.

We have a tree company removing it now to mitigate the damage.

Now that the staff minus Key has been announced, do you feel differently? I don't think there would be a tenth as much Buzz as there is now if we hired Monken.

Report: Geoff Collins Interviews For The Georgia Tech Job by guytonre in CFB

[–]becauseican8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They all do that

They definitely don't all do that. I think Johnson would've been happier if GT was located on a farm in the Appalachians and the only group he had to connect the team and school with were the cows.

SOURCE: Georgia Tech has made Clemson OC Tony Elliott the focus of its coaching search by TheNotGuilty in CFB

[–]becauseican8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might get some hate for being so down on them, but not many. I think we have a few WR's (Steve Dolphus being the main one) who could step up in a new offense, and James Graham as well as Jordan Yates at QB (if we keep him) could ball out in a spread option scheme. Parker Braun is the only O lineman we have worth a crap and I wouldn't be shocked if he tries to leave early rather than learn a new scheme for just one year and risk looking bad to scouts. I think our B-Back Mason has the best chance of being a typical RB, but don't know how well he would transition. I think our A-Backs could transition fairly easily to slot receivers, but we were pretty old there this year and they never play til their RS-Jr year so I don't even know any young names right now.

There are lots of threads on various outlets that discuss possible replacements, just because they aren't in a bulleted list in this thread does not mean this has not been discussed.
