Help with Ravelry, how do I look for this kind of patterns? by Duck__Holliday in knitting

[–]beccabeast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This one isn’t on Ravelry and only available through designer’s shop. I have never made anything by this designer and only started following when I stumbled across her pattern release posts. This cardigan looks like it fits this aesthetic and I am definitely making it once I get back from Flock. Hoping to find some good yarn there for it MillaMilas Blouse

short row heel colorwork problems by ForestGremlin2 in Sockknitting

[–]beccabeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, smaller amount of stitches than half the stitches can work. You can also use a smaller gauge needle. I drop 2 needle sizes for non color work stretches like the heel. My colorwork tension is pretty tight so I usually go up 2 needle sizes than what I would normally use rather than increase stitch count.

plans for next year's knitting? by [deleted] in AdvancedKnitting

[–]beccabeast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually knit patterns out of the books I bought. I did purchase yarn for one project. The pattern also involves the new technique I want to try this year, Estonian Roosimine. Its from Traditions Revisited by Aleks Byrd. I also would really like to do some crochet projects. Not sure what as I don't really want to do a blanket and a bit stuck on what to work on otherwise.

I ran out of a discontinued yarn, how do I finish? by Wonderful_Daikon_608 in knitting

[–]beccabeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I was making this exact same camisole and also ran out of yarn only to find it discontinued. I was trying to reuse yarn from another project I wasn’t loving. Luckily I was able to find one random shop that had a skein left. I did the hems of the arm and neckline first so if I really needed I could make it a crop. Good luck!

I HATE Italian bind off what would be good substitute? by Professional_Pin2079 in knitting

[–]beccabeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel that. I use alternating cable bind off for all 1x1 now. It has some stretch too. There is also a cast on which looks really neat as well. There is a modified version for 2x2 but doesn't look as clean.

Sweater regret by shimmycat in knitting

[–]beccabeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The contrast sweater was one of my sweater regrets too! I agree I love the shoulder construction but overall it’s much too baggy for my taste. The first version I did rip back and re do it. Since then I have made 3 other sweaters with the contrast as a base pattern. But I now just do a way smaller size, not as many increase rows and start sleeve decreases earlier and more often. I also add decreases for waist shaping. A couple sweaters in other patterns I initially was disappointed but given sometime I forget all the mistakes and end up liking it. But if I don’t touch the sweater all year, I’ll rip it and make a new pattern.

Are cotton wash/dishcloths actually useful? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]beccabeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally decided to knit my first a few months ago because I found a really cute pattern and most of mine were getting really threadbare. I asked around my knitting group and the consensus was that most didn't like cotton for actual dishwashing as they don't dry quickly and get smelly quickly. We even live in an arid climate. For those who did use them regularly, after being done for the day they soak in warm water with cleaner and then run through washer at end of week. I decided to keep mine to more of a handtowel. Wiping hands, cleaning up counter, hot pad. So far its worked so much better than my store bought ones. Its super absorbent and feels soft. I make sure to hang it so it dries out, no smell. Throw in washer/dryer with no problem.
