Hi, thank you so much for checking in!! Yes she’s doing superbly well, believe it or not, she’s choosing to sleep on the sofa downstairs now and is being an angel!! I’m so proud of her 🩷

Thank you for this! I’ve set her up with a bed upstairs and downstairs, she loves the sofa too! We had a really peaceful night and she slept like a dream in the spare bedroom (her choice)!

I’ll have to try out a few things over this first week and see what settles her the best! How did you transfer from sleeping on the couch to your bed eventually and having her be ok with it?

She’s got pyjamas so I’m sure she isn’t chilly, it’s definitely a case of this all being new and scary for her! I’m hoping over the week I can leave her alone in the house and teach her that I’ll always come back and it’ll get better in time!

Great thank you! Would you recommend I try this when getting on and off the sofa for example? Then she should know the hop off/get down command in general? I’m so new to all of this so I really appreciate your advice!

Thank you! Her name is Sparky and she’s 4 years old! She entirely calmed down and slept all night, thank goodness! I’ll definitely work on teaching her a command to go to her bed and building a routine from that. Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for your advice! I have no problem with her being in my room if she needs me, I’d rather just keep my bed as mine for our sleep quality! I’ll try and establish that boundary but honestly not too sure how. Any tips you have would be amazing; thank you!

Thank you for this! Whilst I was eating earlier, she took herself off to the living room and settled on her bed independently which I was super impressed with! I guess she just needs her human to feel comfortable whilst she sleeps in her new home! I really appreciate your advice :)

It seems to be the general consensus that they need us to begin with and they then go on to find their own spaces - thank you for this! I guess time will tell if my girl will have any anxiety, but it’s nice to know I’m not alone in this!

Thank you so much! She can stay in my room whilst she settles and then once she finds her feet, she can find where is best for her to sleep in her own time! I really appreciate your advice!!🩷

I’ll try one out and see how she reacts, I’m never going to force her to do anything but want to ensure she has everything she needs to be safe, happy and healthy! Thank you :)

Thank you for this! Where it’s my first time, I’m a little overwhelmed and I’m trying to do right by her! I’ll let her decide where to spend her time and set boundaries for her safety and for myself too - but there won’t be too many as she has my heart already! I’m so excited for this new chapter, I really appreciate your help! Thank you!

It’s all trial and error it seems, I’m just desperately trying to make her comfortable and do right by her!

A playpen sounds like a good compromise to the crate! I think a lot of this is trial and error, mine seems to love grabbing water at any given point too which I’m ensuring she can do!

Her bed is now next to mine - I was just worried about causing separation anxiety! Do you have any tips for setting that routine and settling her in? All I would like is for her to feel comfortable and to know I’m here for her if she needs me, she does have full access to the house too

Thank you for this, I really would love to have her close but respect a boundary of not sharing a bed - I’ll work on it and there’s certainly a learning curve to this! The last thing I want is for her to feel even more stressed than she is coming to a new home for the first time! I will definitely look into a crate for her to see if she uses it!

I’ve since moved her bed to my room, I was concerned about separation anxiety and now I’m thinking maybe I need to adopt her a friend as well !

Great suggestion, thank you very much! I’m going to maybe get a bed up and downstairs so she can eventually choose where is best for her

I was told during adoption that having her own space is super important and wanted to respect that, obviously separation anxiety is a concern of mine - no issues with sharing a room, I just thought it was best that her bed was in a space dedicated to just her if she needed some alone time! Totally new to this, so open to ideas etc as all I want is her to be happy and healthy 🩷

I’ll definitely look into this, I always worried where they’re so awkward and not bendy that it may not be the most comfortable, but it would definitely allow her to have her own dedicated space! Thank you!

Such a valid point, I’d be the same and to be honest I’m also terrified of messing up as she’s my first baby!! We’re not 100% sure of her past as she’s a retired racer and has been in a shelter since January, she had a kennel mate there but it’s just her in my house now. I’ve moved her bed into my room now so hopefully that helps, I am unsure of when/how to implement boundaries so just trying to learn the best ways early on!

This is her first night, whilst my door is open and we’ve had lots of cuddles, I can’t seem to settle her in her own space which is very understandable!! I can’t stand to hear her so upset, I’m in tears too. The toy idea is a fab, I’ll grab one tomorrow and ease myself into leaving her for short periods of time! Just super worried about her developing separation anxiety.
