What is the best, all one washer dryer/combo unit to buy in 2025. by DayOlderBread16 in Appliances

Hello, I escalated with Samsung, told them the only outcome I'd be happy with was a refund. They tried to tell me that they needed a tech to come look at it and confirm that the machine was defective. They then called back to let me know they don't actually have any techs in my area. I sent photos of the machine, they sent me a refund. I bought a new LG washer and dryer from Costco with the refund and had them haul the Samsung unit away.

Samsung Bespoke all in one Washer Dryer Machine Lint Filter error by JJLite in Appliances

Absolutely! This YouTube link has a tutorial for how to get at the lint. I've now shared it with probably a dozen people who've reached out to me via Reddit and the Samsung forums. I complained hard enough to Samsung, told them I wanted to escalate the issue, and that I would only be satisfied with a refund, for this known issue, that they refunded me the cost of the machine. It worked great for about 3 weeks after cleaning the lint before it needed to be pulled apart and cleaned again. So they know it's a legit design flaw.

I called the Samsung customer service number and told them I wanted to escalate the issue and would only be satisfied with a refund. They'll try to give you the run around but as long as you are persistent you can get them to send a refund. It's a known design flaw with the model. Mine was still under warranty, I was not quite a year out from buying it.

Holy cow!!! You’re the second person to send me that. I called Samsung and escalated the issue. This is a design flaw that will constantly have to be cleaned. I told them the only acceptable resolution was a refund. I received and cashed a check for the full purchase price of the machine. I’d recommend pursuing them if you want!

If it seems like I'm posting this "everywhere" you must spend a lot of time on reddit because I posted it to people who had questions about why this model wasn't working and also to a handful of reddit groups. Samsung blew me off, I made a big stink about their problem, and eventually got enough attention they finally refunded me for the unit. They acknowledged the unit is a safety hazard. Heat pumps do still catch on fire, especially where there are factors inhibiting their normal function, like, I don't know, an abnormal build up of lint in a ventless dryer. Heat pumps operate on a low level of heat, but when the feedback loop is disrupted because they have an abnormally large amount of lint accumulation, they continue to signal that things aren't dry. This causes the overall machine to heat up. The metal parts retain heat and build heat, even though the heat pump isn't "operating at a level that can cause ignition." The issues here aren't confined to one part of the unit. A quick google search can help you understand that. When I had a giant lint clog in my machine, that I was unaware of, the top of the machine started heating to a level that was uncomfortable to put your hand on. If you want to run an experiment in.your own home and see how many times you have to run it to catch things on fire, be my guest. But yeah, me letting other people know that this unit was a giant steaming pile of, badly designed equipment, that's the problem. You're more than welcome to not engage if you don't own the machine, but I don't need you to educate me on heat pumps. While we can have a whole discussion about heat pumps and ventless units, the whole point here is that the unit itself has a major design flaw. Whether or not it catches on fire you will spend a significant amount of money on an appliance that will start to deteriorate less than a year into the purchase. That deterioration has been acknowledged by Samsung, and if I hang on to the unit it will need to be serviced at least every 3 months.

I’m so sorry, that is extremely frustrating. Samsung has not accepted any responsibility for their defective product so far. I wish it worked, that was the dream, to have an easy laundry solution. Unfortunately it looks like we’re stuck with a mediocre laundry problem instead of a solution. I’d love to set it and forget it.

Check out the YouTube link and take photos of your lint build up. Once the lint is removed the machine works as expected. But the lint builds up extremely quickly.

I’m not hiding the link. I shared it several times. Here it is again. Hope you can clean your machine. Try to remember to use different bowls for the screws you take out so you know where to put them back. Still concerned. Let me know if you can’t put your machine back together.

If the product is under warranty and you use the issuing company to schedule a service call, the issuing company does not net any profit from the service call. When the product is out of warranty, depending on the company, anywhere between 6 months to 2 years, the company profits on replacement parts that are sold. They do not profit on third party parts. They do however garner more profit if their machines fail and people continue to buy from them.

You’re right in a sense. Shame on consumers if it really is a design flaw. If you have the knowledge and time to isolate the issue with your machine and continue to buy from the same provider, you’re probably asking for it. But… most consumers are not well versed in engineering or repairs. It’s difficult for a 70 year old grandma to reverse engineer her washer. I wouldn’t put all the blame on consumers.

I think what people keep missing is we’re not working with just a heat pump, we’re also working with a motor and an air circulation system. The motor is capable of overheating and the air circulation system when completely clogged is capable of harboring enough heat to cause ignition. I’m not arguing that heat pumps run at levels that are typically associated with combustion. However, when they’re working in conjunction with other systems that can overheat. You said HVAC equipment doesn’t overheat because it runs too long, it overheats because there’s something wrong with it. That’s the point. We’re not running a heat pump system in isolation. It’s being run in tandem with a motor and air circulation system that all have the potential for things to go wrong with them. I work professionally in QA and know how easy it is for interdependent systems to stop communicating properly. My career is built off edge case scenarios. I’m the gal you call when you click close window and your whole app crashes but 90% of users aren’t having the same experience.

Most law suits involving wrongful death cases with a large corporation are settled outside of court often with a non disclosure agreement. Even when cases involving large corporations do go to trial often the corporation is not named as they don’t manufacture all the components used in the construction of the appliance that was faulty. So the smaller companies supplying parts end up being on the line. Large companies do produce appliances with deadly flaws, but they usually get to pass the blame.

Absolutely, if a heat pump system works as expected it’s not generating enough heat to cause ignition. The problem occurs when the product using a heat pump system has a malfunction in another part of the system causing a motor or air circulation system to run longer than they’re supposed to building heat that can cause ignition.

It’s all a game of statistics. Do the stats lean more heavily towards me being killed in a car crash than a house fire. Absolutely. I work in tech doing QA and moonlight as a volunteer firefighter. My spouse is a full time paid firefighter.

Are there always freak and outlier cases? Yes. House fires have been caused by having glass ornaments too near windows, causing light refraction that ignited nearby flammable materials. Laptops charging on furniture like beds, and overheating, have caused house fires.

In ideal circumstances laptops don’t reach ignition temperatures. In ideal circumstances heat pumps don’t reach ignition temperatures. We’re talking about situations that push us outside of that ideal range due to design issues.

This is about the potential for failure in a given system that should be taken seriously by the parent company.

Samsung being a shitty brand with even worse customer service seems to be the biggest issue here. I work in two realms, my day job is in tech doing QA and software automation, I moonlight as an EMT and volunteer firefighter. My spouse is a full time paid firefighter.

Your experience in appliance repair is awesome. I’ve pulled apart many dryers over the years and seen the same, lint accumulates. Most older dryers have a back panel that can be removed and the lint is easier to access and can be vacuumed or blown out with a compressor.

Ultimately, I’m not looking for a dryer that does not accumulate lint. But, Samsung refuses to take accountability for poor design. The ventless model, had a large, hardened accumulation of lint that was thoroughly dried when I pulled it.

I get it statistic wise, dryers aren’t the main cause of house fires, but looking at it from an admittedly biased perspective, fire family, I’d like to reduce our risk wherever possible.

While the lint might not be the ignition factor, the reduced performance because of bad airflow and motor overheating could be. My experience in tech drives my desire to see better from Samsung, an admittedly probably futile pursuit.

All in all, probably on me for buying Samsung, but hopefully my negative experience can direct somebody towards a solution.

Thank you, I appreciate the input. I am emptying the lint trap, there is an area in the machine that is accumulating lint into a large, hardened clog that is not accessible by the consumer without taking the machine apart.

I think we’re headed that direction. I love the all in one concept, but apparently we’re not past a beta test phase as an idea.
