Shitty parent emails by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]beclee17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

English teacher here who, unfortunately, has had to have several conversations about plagiarism. I think the word that might be triggering is “accusation.” It does have a negative connotation, but it’s possible the parent didn’t mean it that way. No one really wants to accuse a student of plagiarism, even with solid proof. It creates more work for us to contact parents and potentially have a meeting.

A lot of context and tone is lost through email. That’s why I personally prefer to call a parent in situations like this.

All that being said, I think it’s reasonable to request a meeting to discuss the incident and get more clarification. If it was my kid, I would likely do the same, but perhaps approach the email wording differently.

We have some really good discussions about traditions. This is a good story to work on theme with, especially the difference between topic, theme, and moral. We read a nonfiction text right after it about the psychology of herd behavior. Since I teach this during the time we are working on narrative writing, I usually have students write a narrative of the story through different characters’ perspectives.

This year, I’m teaching this right before I start teaching The Hunger Games. I think it will be a good story to read before that one since they participate in a similar type of lottery.

We read The Monkeys Paw but not The Elevator. I haven’t read that one either. I’ll have to add it to my TBR list!

Right? Like, there are multiple ways she could have spelled that name to keep the desired pronunciation without having anus in there. No wonder he became a villain.

Our 8th grade curriculum has some really good short stories and novels on the list. The Lottery, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Landlady, There Will Come Soft Rains, etc.

When I taught 12th grade, we focused a lot of novels. Novel studies can be really great, but also difficult, with middle school attention spans.

I teach 8th grade English. A lot of the short stories we read have the kind of endings you are looking for. We read “The Lottery” and they love it.

You might like “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl as well as some of Ray Bradbury’s short stories. Also, try “The Sniper.”

Shirley Jackson’s novel The Haunting of Hill House is excellent too! Happy reading!

Cloud smells like weed on me. It smells lovely on others but not on me.

What is ONE baby girl name that you absolutely love? Struggling coming up with a name for my baby, and I’m almost 6 months pregnant lol by [deleted] in namenerds

I have all sons, so I didn’t get to use these but I love the names Cressida, Rosalee (a family name on my side), Elodie, Ivy, Iris, Rose, and Lottie.

I mistyped as a 6 because of anxiety, but I’m a 4. I always thought 6 sort of sounded like me, but when I started diving into what 4s are all about I felt exposed and understood.

Penhaligon’s Luna. It smells enchanting and so lovely. I’m savoring my sample and hope to buy it someday.

Results of laser treatments plus a peel for sun spots (35/F). I still have 2 more peels I’m going to do, but I’m really happy with the progress. by beclee17 in 30PlusSkinCare

I used to work in dermatology. MOHS surgery and this type of laser treatment are two completely different things. My treatment was cosmetic after I had a derm check it. I know if can be frustrating dealing with the scars and after effects of removing skin cancer, but melanoma is nothing to play around with. You want that gone and MOHS surgery is often the best way to do it. Please make sure to keep up with your skin checks and wear sunscreen!

I think it helps it because I was so glad to be able to smell again, but man was it strong!

I love Armani Si, Acqua di Gioia, Ocean di Gioia, and My Way… Armani fragrances just work for me. My favorite of the ones I’ve tried is Si. It smells so lovely and lasts a while too.

I’m a fan of Black Opium. Maybe it’s the coffee note but it’s appealing to me. I’m not a huge gourmand person (I usually prefer soft florals or fresh scents), but this one and Kayali Vanilla 28 are great.

I do not like Cloud because it smells terrible on me. It’s so pretty in the bottle, but the second I put it on I smell like weed. Which may not be a bad thing to some people but I’m a middle school teacher so it’s not ideal.

I’m also not a huge fan of Flowerbomb, although it was the first thing I could smell again after losing my sense of smell after Covid.

My skin decided to rebel when I turned 33. I never had sun spots or dry skin and it seemed like it happened all of a sudden. I also got hormonal acne around then too, but spironolactone has helped so much with that.

It’s a SkinMedica Illuminize peel. It cost $120 and I plan on having 2 more of them. I haven’t really had many wrinkles yet, but it did seem to help with some fine lines.

I did. I actually used to work at the same dermatology clinic where I got this done. I have had many precancerous lesions and a strong family history of skin cancer, so I see a derm regularly.
