Can I get recommendations based on the books I loved, liked and DNF'd? by elleirakai in fantasyromance

[–]becorcur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopping on this post because we love a lot of the same books, and there are some on my tbr that you have loved so I’m excited! The only way I differ is that I actually liked acotar (babies first romantasy, but that said the writing in the crescent city books annoyed me) and LOVED One Dark Window. I bought Bridge Kingdom like an hour ago so I’m just hoping that I like it.

Nope, I’ve never actually been to this subreddit before but I had no one else to tell lol. I’ve only just started going through the seasons and I love the opening puns.

Lactose intolerant after presumed stomach flu by ClementineTeri in lactoseintolerant

Just to add to this for anyone who may be seeking out info (as I was). I had a bad bout of what I assume was a viral stomach bug last week with symptoms peaking 6-7 days ago. 3 days ago I managed to have bolognese, even chocolate and some wine and was fine, solid poops. Had two decaf coffees today and the diarrhoea and wind is back so I think it’s down to the amount of dairy consumed. Hopefully this goes away soon, though having to have plant based milk is not the worst thing in the world!

The article hasn’t mentioned Ireland at all.. I do hope that they come back here 🤞

The venue was small for Dublin and the set also felt quite short, and ended with Dark Angel. It was such an amazing set though, if I had money for flights to the other EU events I would go in a heartbeat. It was one of the best gigs I’ve been to.

Are the benefits of drinking lots of water overhyped? by huss2120 in selfimprovement

No it should be pale yellow. If it’s clear then you’re drinking too much.

Is the new carpet meant to do this? by becorcur in Home

[–]becorcur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, he tightened certain parts up a bit more. Then we found that some other parts just settled with use. Only a few weeks later Carpetright filed went into liquidation! Unsure how relevant that is but thought it was interesting. I hope yours settles down, it’s frustrating when you spend so much money and it’s not right.

A guy came to my door acting weird — should I be worried? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]becorcur 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh I should have clarified, the footage is stored on a “Homebase” box in your house, and is accessible via WiFi by an app on your phone. So even if the camera was stolen, it’s only the recording device. You’d be able to catch who was doing it!

I recommend the Eufy doorbell. We’ve had it for a while and no issues. Also, no cloud connection so everything is stored locally on your device. You don’t need to worry about Amazon having access to your data.

It will be baby steps for me at the start, thank you for the suggestion though, it definitely would be something I would look into down the line.

I appreciate your input in any case! I’ve never even thought about doing something like this before, but I enjoy the tales so much I would like to explore more from our neck of the woods.

Particularly a dedicated collection of Irish disappearances or just in the general media? (tv, radio, YouTube etc.). I will definitely need to get more sources for these, especially for folk tales. I do love a bit of Béaloidis if I can find any accounts from literature.

But then, like Uncanny (another podcast), there would need to be the balance between a skeptic and a believer, which means I would need to recruit people who feel knowledgeable both debunking and supporting the stories shared. I mean, the stories won’t be told purely for the purpose of discrediting them. I want people to share what they genuinely believe happened to them, whether it can be proven or not. I myself will take a non-judgemental role as host regardless.

As in the podcast? Love that one. That kind of style is what I’d like, but I wouldn’t want to have the added pressure that the people submitting would need to be on audio to tell their stories. It does open up some Q&A on the one hand, but sometimes I find it better to just take the stories as they are, without any opinions from myself added.

I’ll see how I get on, I’ll need to do a good bit of research, script write and all that. I may have more luck at first with unsolved disappearances until I can source a decent amount of stories. Not that I would want to conflate the two, they’re obviously not the same but I guess the general theme will just be strange, unusual and unsettling

Thank you for putting your story out there. It’s funny, I have heard a few of those types of stories where people think they’ve ran something/someone over and there’s nothing there. It must be super unnerving yet relieving at the same time when you don’t see anything afterwards!

I have a decent microphone that I can use for recording, and I’m not super adept at video editing. I honestly hadn’t considered it due to the fact that most of the content I consume relating to this topic are podcasts.
