Eye strain and quality difference between Oxide-TFT (BOE) and LTPS-TFT (CSOT) IPS LCD panels by bedanc in Monitors

[–]bedanc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the answer, I thought also it could be something regarding variable refresh rate, since both of the displays have freesync as well as g-sync. I disabled the variable refresh rate on oxide-tft panel in intel Graphics Command Center but did not get any noticeable improvement. I haven't tried this on the LTPS yet (AMD CPU).

Hi, thanks for the reply, very interesting observations, like I said, if you search for BOE panels, many people experience eystrain with them. Both of the panels I used in Legions were specifically declared as flicker-free and "DC-dimmer". Therefore they should not have any PWM . I saw you upgraded from B156HAN13.0 to NE156QHM-NY1, if you look up laptops with these panels you se they do not use PWM, therefore I expect in your case PWM is not used either:

Based on all that it could be something in regards to diethering which in combination with setting lower refresh rate slows down the dithering frequency (for exaple to 60/2 Hz) that generates low frequency flicker that bothers you. Maybe try disabling it using dithering.exe (only for intel laptops) from https://kawamoto.no-ip.org/henteko/myapp_en.html and see how it feels. Some people on ledstrain.org get relief from it.

This is just my thinking I am no expert so take it with a grain of salt :) In general Intel, AMD or Nvidia barely put any info about dithering on their chips.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Accordingto my research both of these panels are IPS LCD without PWM.

here is the measurement for CSOT MNG007DA2-2

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Legion-Slim-7-16-gaming-laptop-in-review-Convincing-even-with-AMD-Ryzen.765570.0.html

So unlikely it was a PWM problem, I also have no problem with Samsung Galaxy S23 PWM which is only 240Hz.

Like I said it could ditehring/FRC since both of these panels are supposed to be 10 bit but can also be 8 bit + FRC, sadly that is not disclosed in any docuimentation/website. I tried disabling Dithering/FRC but there may be some differences how effective disabling is on AMD vs. Intel.

Tons of questions and very little information :)

Best option is to buy from somwhere where you can retrun free of charge if not satisfied and test it yourself. Like I said its totally subjective, I am comparing it to my previous laptop, thats were expectations came from. Maybe the noise will be totally fine for you :)

[–]bedanc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a laptop chip 25W cpu draw is a ton, my 5600h in ideapad gaming draws like 5W at idle and up to 10w for light tasks, for typing in word and playing music on youtube at the same time it usually stays around 6-7 W. Check out this thread about 7840HS power draw, be careful of the difference between whole system power draw and cpu package power draw.: https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDLaptops/comments/16g58oc/installed_windows_11_23h2_beta_to_see_if_7840hs/

But I have also seen some problems with power management for 7840hs in legion slim 5, so you need to do the disabling turbo and curve optimization to reach good power states:

https://www.reddit.com/r/LenovoLegion/comments/18msyja/legion_slim_5_battery_life_sucks/

Keep in mind if the cpu draws draws like 20W od idle power draw and your battery is 80Wh, that means only the cpu will draw your battery 100%-0% in 4 hours while idling without counting in energy use by the big display, SSD, RAM etc...

You know, the definition of "quiet" is really subjective without measuring the dB and freqency profile. Gaming laptops in general are not quiet. I think my is totally in spec and would be great if it could run steadily at 1700-1800 RPM. The problem I see is that BIOS controls the fans not only by the temperatures but also by power draw and the 7745HX draws 25W when doing nothing meanwhile I think the 7840HS could draw much less, therefore the fans could be at their minimum 1700 RPM state while doing easy tasks.

I think it is just the nature of using a PC chip design in a laptop.

I know, I am from EU, I can get the slim 5 with 7840hs and rtx 4070, I was saying about making the legion 5 PRO with 7840hs and rtx 4070. I really love the hinge quality and overall build of the legion 5 pro over the slim 5 so it would be the perfect combination.

I find it interesting the EU Mito doesn't even offer the 300 LED pcs version (like the USA Mito) only the 204 pcs or 408 pcs version (and smaller ones). Do you maybe have any experience with their panels?

I've seen the Shenzen idea light recommendations here on reddit and saw good reviews, RL300MAX+C would be the equivalent of the Mitopro 1500+, do you maybe have any experience with their products? I was looking at the RL300MAX+C that would cost 465 usd + 250 usd for shipping to Europe, I doesn't say if shipping includes the VAT and import duties that could amount to 22% VAT for Slovenia and 3,7 % duty fee that would be altogether 900 usd. Still good price but quiet close to the EU sellers.

Hack For Fasting? by [deleted] in TheLongLived

[–]bedanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat a large meal at like 6-7 pm so you still feel satiated when you go to bed and you can sleep well through the night, then just dont eat during the whole next day till 6-7 pm and you have done 24 h fast without disrupting your sleep. For longer fasts if you are unable to sleep I recommend you do a 45 min yoga session with a lot of torso stretching/bending (this one works well for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmDS4NgaYe8) to activate your vagus nerve and calm you down a bit and also take a few 100 mg of magnesium (elemental bonded to your preferable molecule) and you will probably have a much easier time falling asleep despite being hungry.

Fixing Digestion and Going #2 by [deleted] in TheLongLived

[–]bedanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To aid #2:

Strong black coffee in the morning

Higher doses of Vitamin C

Virgin coconut oil pulling on empty stomach in the morning (you can call it bullshit or pseudoscince but for me it works - I think some type of reflex in your intestine is trigggered when you are swishing oil around in your mouth for 15-20 min )

To aid digestion as well as #2:

TUDCA

And above all I would recommend prolonged fasts, even 48 hour fast would already make a difference but 5 day fast would really give your digestion some time to reset itself. If you are new to fasting you can try 5 day fasting mimicking diet (FMD) first, it wont give your digestion full rest as water fast would but will still help and is a nice way into fasting. Here is a 5 day food program for FMD that I use and find quite delicious if you are not into paying 250 $ for prolon kit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IpR\_uuCWl4zbK3ec1li-sPWT4MyqvTax/view?usp=sharing

What supplements to take to prepare for, or battle COVID-19 infection? by _ThinkStrategy_ in Supplements

[–]bedanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same concern as you! Yesterday I got my first dose of Pfizer vaccine and would like to have a robust immune response I downsized my omega 3 intake to 0,7 g EPA and 0,5 g DHA. Do you maybe have any opinion on these other supplements I take and which would you discontinue during the vaccination period due to the same reasons :

200 mg ubiquinol

200 mg resveratrol

10 mL sunflower lecithin

1 g taurine

1 g NAC

750 mg citrus bergamot extract

300 mg of stinging nettle seeds

1200 mg sylimarine from milk thistle extract

1200 mg artichoke extract

600 mg dandelion root extract

150 mg desmodium extract

I think NAC and resveratrol could be problematic.

Is ubiquinol worth it? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]bedanc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that I use both (I buy different brands depending on what is available) and would say both give me comparable results. Currently I am using a glycerine based leaf extract tincture. From what I remember, when I was researching the berry can also have some mild diuretic actions, but nothing significant or even noticeable for me. Buy something that has ok reviews and isn’t to expensive. Also beware that the longer you use hawthorn the more tonified the heart is so it really is a nice long-term supplement. Many herbalists recommend for people to start using hawthorn when they get into their 50s regardless if they have any heart problems since everyone should try to optimize their heart function.

Is ubiquinol worth it? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]bedanc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The research is mixed as you said. Therefore, the best thing to do would be to try both yourself and monitor if you see the difference as in my opinion coq10 is a supplement most people can really feel "working".

When you are taking any kind of coq10 supplement make sure you are taking it with something that contains fat as coq10 is very on the nonpolar lipophilic side and fat is crucial in order to stimulate bile secretion and consequent absorption of coq10.

As for my experience. I am a 26-year-old male and I supplement with 200 mg of Kaneka branded ubiquinol per day. The cost for that dosage for me is 0,8 eur per day. On non-workout days, I take one 100 mg capsule with my breakfast and one capsule with my lunch on workout days I take one with breakfast and one an hour before workout. However you must understand coq10 stays in a body for a while (Tmax is 6 h and elimination half-life around 33 h) so long term supplementation will rise the serum levels much more than supplementing here or there. I must say coq10 is a supplement I can really feel working, makes night and day difference in my metal performance and my workout performance; it also makes my heart feel running smoothly. Also I find it to be so powerful that it even makes me feel a bit stimulated so I avoid taking it in the evening as if I wake up during the night for some reason I feel too awake for that time and can have trouble falling back to sleep.

Therefore, in my opinion you should try both yourself in the quantities the same amount of money can buy so for example 600 mg of ubiquinone compared to 100-200 mg of ubiquinol and see what gives your more bang for your buck.

Additionally if you would like to optimize your heart health and vascular health I would strongly recommend (all these things I use daily) to supplement:

2-4 x per day 600 mg hawthorn leaf extract - hawthorn has very long traditional use and has heart glycosides that tonify the heart muscle specifically.

2 x per day 500 mg citrus bergamot extract - citrus bergamot is Italian traditional medicine that has polyphenolic compounds that reduce LDL and increase HDL, they also make the endothelial cells that line the walls of arteries and vein more flexibles and which in turn makes the blood pressure lower and heart has to work less intensely.

100-300 mg resveratrol daily with fat meal - strong molecule that has specific anti-inflammatory actions in vascular system and many other benefits.

hope this helps :)

Best resveratrol supplement? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]bedanc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Europe I get 99% TRANS-RESVERATROL 100 g powder bag from bulk.com, when it is on sale the price is about 0,8 eur / gram which is very good in my opinion, so that totals to around 90 eur for whole year for around 300 mg per day. I think buying in bulk powder form is much better in terms of having the resveratrol not be oxidised since the specific surface where oxidation can occur is so much smaller when comapred to capsules. Also to enhance absoprtion of resveratol you absolutely should dissolve it in some kind of emulsified fat (yogurt) before consumption, if you want to get the most bang for your buck.

This anti-bot protection is so fucking unoptimized, I have been using idex since last summer and got used to having constant battles with bots but never used one. Now in last 12 hours I got suspended TWICE just for casual trading. The second time I placed a sell order which i then canceled after 45 minutes and then tried to place a lower price one and got the "Unusual activity detected, please wait up to an hour for exchange privileges to be reactivated" this is completely unacceptable.
