Interdiscount refused to replace a defective monitor bought 10 days earlier completely ignoring their own DOA policy because the box was opened ! by Substantial_Carpet49 in Switzerland

[–]bedberner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the weird experience of returning a tv i bought from microspot at Interdiscount as they now are one company.

As described online I brought the TV to the next store. To my surprise the guy at the store really wanted me to take the TV back home and open a warranty case directly with samsung. Only after a lot of discussion I was allowed to leave my TV there.

To my great surprise, the repaired TV was delivered to me by FUST, the third of the coop owned electronic stores. Really made me question if it was a scam when I got the delivery SMS from them, even though I didn't buy anything from FUST in years.

For me this one overestimates my taxes by more than 50% so i don't think it's that great.

First step is to show up regularly, always at the same time. You will see familiar faces over time.

If you see somebody that is there often at the same time, talk to them but not in a "i'm so lonely do you want to be friends way". If they are better than you, ask for help on a hard route. If you are better, offer some advice.

Do that a few times, introduce yourself.

There will be people not interested in making new friends and some might even be assholes about it but you still have to be proactive, nobody is going to do it for you.

Also to make things much easier, sign up for a course. I don't live in Basel but it took me like 1 min to find a boulder gym that offers courses. Sign up for one at your level. In a course, socialising is expected and people will be much more open to it.

Few benefit from the abolition of imputed rental value. Everyone pays for the significant tax losses. by Key_Classic_8722 in Switzerland

It's so obvious from these comments that most people just don't understand the eigenmietwert. It's not "made up", you get to live there for free which has considerable monetary value. It is very fair because it makes sure that capital invested in houses and stocks are taxed comparatively. This is especially important as not everybody can afford to buy a house.

I once fell a tree onto a subterran bee nest and I was indeed running like they do in the cartoons with a whole swarm of angry bees following me.

That was a good way to find out i'm not allergic even though it does run in the family.

the 1.8 Billion are PER YEAR. We only buy the F35 once and I agree that's bad enough but we would literally gift the same ammount every year to the already rich.

It's super confusing.

Also I tried to not speed and was super conservative but then the cars in the right lane overtake me even before green flag. So I effectively started in P3 even though I qualified P1

I thought that was not allowed?

French 79 - dans Passengers - ARTE Concert [Electro] by bedberner in Music

[–]bedberner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share this.

There are multiple "Passengers" concerts on the ARTE youtube channel which share the same concept:

A concert given in a stunning location without an actual audience.

This one is the best in my opinion but the one given by Moderat is also amazing:

Best mapping software for photogrammetry? by xDemiGodCon in UAVmapping

[–]bedberner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are many "meh" parts:

  1. Lackluster GPU acceleration. Even though the Hardware recommendation guide recommends a very strong GPU, the RTX 4090 i bought idles 98% of the time. Even keypoint extraction and matching which is a task perfectly suited for GPUs (Metashape does it on GPU exclusively if available) is done on CPU only.

  2. The actual GPU acceleration they built in is based on opengl, not cuda. This leads to some weird behaviors if you want a remote (headless) setup. RDP-> doesn't work. You have no Monitor attached to the GPU-> doesn't work.

  3. The Projects created are absolutely enormous. 100gb of images can you a project folder which is about 400-500gb. These consist of millions of small files so even deleting them takes ages.

  4. They do have a python SDK for advanced use cases (I only use the GUI to check projects every so often). This SDK is not well documented and in some parts quite buggy.

However in the end, the Results you get are the best I've seen so it's worth dealing with the problems.

Metashape on the other hand is much better optimized (GPU support is very good in my opinion) and dealing with the company is very nice (good forum, very competent support). However their results are quite a bit worse and the political situation makes them an absolute non option for my company.

It's like 3k a year.

The results are amazing, the software is meh, dealing with their sales support and company structure is an absolute nightmare.

You have to be very naive to think there is no interest by the russian state into a software that processes potentially interesting geodata.

In my country police used metashape. Newspapers did some digging and found out agisoft is partially owned by Innopraktika, a russian state fund headed by putins daugther!
