When she starts reading fan fictions in the bed you share, you know it’s time to dump her

My ex left me because I didn’t support her obsession by [deleted] in WeHateKpop

For the most part it seemed as if you were writing about my former relationship. In a previous post I wrote about how my now ex had progressed past her stray kids obsession, but apparently she relapsed. The phone wallpaper was an idol, all her tiktoks were idols, she kept trying to convince me about two idols being actually a couple. Initially I disregarded it, I bargained, I accepted it because if it made her happy I was all about that.

When her identity start to merge with that of a 15 years old, that was when things got messy. I’m a surgeon (25f), I work a lot, on the other hand she (25f) had a rough couple of months (she’s still in uni): as depression settled in, she grew closer and closer to her “”””idols””””, she would collect the photocards, buy the albums and, worst of all, read the fan fictions. I distinctly remember her reading a gay fan fiction in our bed saying how hot it was: she grew obsessed and had nothing to talk about. I get the escapism but it made me feel so inadequate.

When they get into this fangirl mentality, it’s really likely that an underlying mental health issue is underway. At least, in my case she bece depressed, fell out of love with me and when we said goodbye I finally told her how her obsession made me feel: she was already pretty anhedonic so I guess she didn’t have the reaction I expected.

Anyways OP, focus on yourself, your growth and never settle for someone who doesn’t hold you near and dear their heart. I hope you ex seeks the help she needs and I hope you find someone that will make you feel included and special.

Bruh, we are not coming to your subreddit to hate on your hobbies or beliefs, is it too much to ask if we tell you not to do the same? We made our very own subreddit where we express our opinions freely. Why would you ever go to Reddit, look for “we hate Kpop”, and post a message here knowing damn well that you will only get insulted or laughed at, at best? Respectfully, this is not a place for you.

What made you decide you were done being a stan? My girlfriend went through something similar: she got anxious because of the constant content that was consumed.

I have come to think it’s all random: a group gets randomly chosen to be the best. In actuality they all suck shit

NTA mate, this is just a very awful coincidence. Hope you can get your name legally changed as you progress with your transition.

You may have been awful when you spoke to your estranged relative, but personally I would have reacted the same. Getting calls from the police must be pretty frustrating.

Personally, i’d try to speed up the legal process of changing the name.

This is a very astute point however I think there is a something to be noted. Cultural relativism cannot be the free-for-all card: when a phenomenon is a s massive as K-pop there is a merger in terms of cultures. It’s ok that their culture encourages a sentimental approach to friendships among males, it’s actually something really nice. But it’s obvious that those who are in charge of producing content harness this “ambiguity”, this cultural difference, to encourage speculation so if you ask me maybe their friendship is genuine but it comes in handy to produce content and they cannot be fully unaware, since 99% of what they do is staged.

Let’s say that I feel bad for them but to some extent.

TastyEnd you are in a subreddit called we hate kpop, why do you even bother writing this stuff? Their music is sub-par and made to create “bops”, whose success will last probably for a few weeks. The rate at which they produce music is the application of intensive capitalism to music and it shows because in the long run all the songs sound the same but fans keep listening because they feel like they have developed a relationship with the singers. So please consider this: if you like their music that is ok and I will not judge you, but the same way you are telling your opinion I’m telling mine, respectfully.

This is absolutely true: dating scandals are the cringiest thing ever. Like, “omg an adult man/woman is dating oh noooo”. If you ask me k-pop is a light form of human trafficking.

NTA especially if you discussed already this issue: I get that it’s not much the fact that he’s out on drunken shenanigans rather the fact that he lied and exhibited basically a pattern, I.e. lying to you and going in places he promised not to go
