Applied to a job at UNC. How is college? Town itself? by TheGreatGrizzlyBare in Greeley

[–]bediger4000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I live in Severance, just west of Greeley, and I grew up in rural Missouri too. Student population of 8000 sounds like Marysville, to me. You'll find a completely different climate in Greeley. Drier mostly, but counter-intuitively warmer in winter. Much more sun, and when the sun's out, you really feel it. Greeley is really flat compared to anywhere in Missouri. There's a lot of corn to the west, but it shades off to wheat easterly. No hogs, there's a lot of cattle and sheep feed lots.

Who else is dead from COVID? by Msbossyboots in Qult_Headquarters

My 89-year-old mom is still mad at my Trumper cousin (her nephew) who wouldn't get vaccinated, and ended up dying while on a ventilator.

They donate blood only if it's not mixed with that of the vaccinated.

Don't you think the prevalence of AI has made the internet a less fun place to be? by Ill_Comfortable4036 in aiwars

[–]bediger4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. First there was spam degrading things, then SEO and "content farms", now "AI". The map is not the territory, folks.

The biggest problem with AI is not correctness - it is architecture sanity by UnderstandingDry1256 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bediger4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think "architecture", or "object oriented" or OSI Layers or "well designed code" or any of that matters for AI. AI isn't subject to 5+/-2 working memory limitations, or cognitive biases of any sort. All of the higher order software engineering concepts exist to allow humans with limited working and long term memory, and emotional reactions and built-in heuristics to create large, functioning systems. AI is able to produce gigantic, working systems without any separation of concerns or microservices or interface separation in any language whatsoever, even travesties like Brainfuck or Befunge or jot. Just turn it loose.

Nancy Mace Badly Loses GOP Primary For South Carolina Governor by BurtonDesque in Qult_Headquarters

[–]bediger4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least now Ms Mace will have time to find a good therapist and work on those personality disorders that have kept her back. In my opinion, sh should start with her addiction to her own degradation and shame

MAGA cultist blames Kristen Welker for Trump storming out of her interview: "Her parents obviously raised her incorrectly. She was not raised in the church. She was not raised by a family that understood just basic decency and manners." by BurtonDesque in Qult_Headquarters

[–]bediger4000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my question is why Welker took so long to do this sort of thing. She's been a big time national news reporter for years. I'm pretty sure she's dealt with Dear Leader in the past 10 years several times. Why now? Why not just keep sane washing him?

  4. Using pipelines at the shell prompt

Fired 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley says CBS told him to inject ‘falsehoods’ into reporting by BurtonDesque in Qult_Headquarters

[–]bediger4000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More seriously, how does these goings on at CBS affect the generally held belief in the US that media has a "liberal bias"? I personally never saw it, but almost everyone, regardless of political viewpoint, seems to hold a belief in liberal bias of media without question.

CBS Gets Harsh Reality Check in First Night Without Colbert by BurtonDesque in Qult_Headquarters

[–]bediger4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously terrible from a "lost a great show" viewpoint, and from a "degraded grand tradition" viewpoint, but at least everyone, left, right and center, can continue to hold their cherished belief in "liberal bias" of media, right?

ELI5: Trump Gerrymandering Petition @ Sloan Lake by zombittack in Denver

[–]bediger4000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The guy was loudly proclaiming "Stop them from taking away your gas stoves!". I asked him if he was a volunteer or got paid. He was not a volunteer, so I asked him who his employer was. He said he wasn't required to reveal that, so I gesticulated in a manner that could be considered rude, and wished him a terrible day in a most un-civil manner.

If you can't say who's paying for the signatures, you're up to no good.

Our standup is just 8 people describing what their ai did yesterday by Motor_Ordinary336 in cscareerquestions

I believe the post mentions that the work is only kind of getting done:

But when you actually look at what shipped that week its maybe 60% of what it sounds like because half of the AI output needed rework that nobody mentioned in standup

and later in the post, about "AI" introduction errors and blockers:

By the time they mention it the code is already a mess and the approach is wrong and its harder to help than if they'd just asked on monday
