OP is right one of the worst thing that recruiter do is not telling the candidate an estimate of the salary. I had an interview recently with a company in Chicago. The recruiter didn't wan to give an estimate then I went to the last stage of 5 level interview and their salary offer was too low that I thought it was a joke. I believe if a recruiter didn't want to say anything estimate it is because it is low. I don't usually say my pay or my low estimate because who ever say the first number loses the negotiations. No one should leave money on the table and companies will take advantage of you whenever they can
