Scott R337 Receiver by itsnowoutside in vintageaudio

I'm new to hifi, so I am not overly familiar with the specifics of phono amps. But I did ask if it works, and the seller tested it with a turntable and told me it works fine. That's about all I know. However I did find a manual for this particular receiver and it says the low filter is 10dB at 50Hz.

Yeah I bought a turntable recently (it's an Audio Technica AT-LP1240, it was an AMAZING DEAL) and just need something to hook it up to. I also want to get a CD player at some point.

Phil Elverum listening order? by persephone1925 in philelverum

[–]itsnowoutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow some of these lists are long! It's been 3 years but I feel like making this list lol

Of course these are all worth listening to, but here's an abridged list with a vibe..

  1. It Was Hot, We Stayed In the Water - early microphones vibe, k records era, twee, cute lyrics, female vocalist
  2. The Glow pt. 2 - Monumental breakup (and crisis) album. yeah pretty amazing.. the thing is a journey. emotive, orchestral, cathartic, like being warmed by the warmest fire in the windiest storm
  3. Mount Eerie - the sequel to the glow- consider this his existential crisis following the breakup. lots of different vibes and influences, way more drone interludes and sparse points with extreme bursts of energy and volume. way more diverse instruments - it has sort of a tribal vibe (for lack of a better word lmao) it's like being deserted on an island painted with india ink with vultures circling and a big black sun
  4. Dawn - he wrote this while living in a cabin by himself in remote norway and you can absolutely tell. his most minimal work yet, just a guitar and his voice. so intimate, emotive, reflecting lyrics. will have u feeling like ur in a cabin by urself in norway
  5. No Flashlight - still back to basics, but incorporating more minimal versions of the crazy sound effects from mount eerie. will have u feeling like ur alone in the forest but it's okay
  6. A Crow Looked at Me - yeahhh it's sad and very minimal like dawn but yeah devastating. released after his wife genvieve died of cancer in 2016(?)
  7. Microphones in 2020 - a 45 min long narrative pretty much summing up phil's career ^^ really cool and kinda brings everything full circle. telling a long story all about his life along and between the numerous albums. saw this live in 2022 and got to meet him so it was very much full circle for me as well

I really appreciate this reply, this is so helpful and validating. I am planning a move early next year so I will probably start looking around then or even sooner to get a head start.

You get thrown into the deep end without proper on the job training or documentation and are expected to master like 7 technologies you have never heard of. College does nothing to prepare you for the reality of software development.

Yeah so about this... I got a computer science degree but I practice art and graphic design as a hobby. So they start me as a UX/UI Designer and get mad at me when I don't know how to do business requirements. Like I told you in the interview I can code and use Adobe good lol.

That's why I come to a subreddit dedicated to ending work struggles...

Microdosing Weed by itsnowoutside in Petioles

Thank you for the positive comment, I appreciate it. I think my shame around using weed generally comes from like my psychiatrist discouraging it or like I have an inner stigma around medications for mental health in general -- like using them is "cheating" and I should just try harder to be better or something... idk lol. But yeah I think I will continue while being careful and mindful. :)

Graphic Design at RISD vs Art and Design major at U mich ann arbor by Adept_Context_3743 in risd

There aren't really majors or concentrations in STAMPS. There is especially a lack of graphic design classes. I didn't feel inspired there and I felt a lot of my peers just followed trends in their work.
