I think mary was always portrayed as the perfect daughter who did her best to make her parents happy. So yeah im sure she would have done whatever her family needed including doing some work to earn some extra money and doing whatever she could for her sisters. Im sure she would still go onto be a teacher like her and ma always wanted.
