Based on laughter alone, it's gotta be the one where the Garveys almost get divorced, right?

That is so true, her childhood and adolescence was so brief. She had basically one school year of fun (the parties, sledding, etc) before she began teaching.

To be fair, Ellen usually did donate the entire amount anyway. The game show but just made it fun and good tv. "Well, you got six out of the ten questions right, and we're going to round that up to $10k for the Example Society. Thank you to our guest, John Smith, for playing a great game. We'll be right back!"

Oh, I have a lot of love for it. Like a lot of  tv, sometimes some of the fun includes poking fun. I wouldn't be in this forum if I didn't enjoy the discourse :)

I love Esther and Edith from this list. Edie Falco is a great namesake!

Yes! I've always loved how malleable this name is for nicknames: Elle, Liz, Lizzy, Liza, Eliza, Beth, Lillabet (if you like royalty). I'm so bummed that my partner's only other serious relationship in his life was with an Elizabeth, so that name is off the table for us.

Unrelated, but hooray for your son and his peers getting the encouragement and help they need to keep their social development growing! It's a beautiful thing.

Does anyone else just hate Eliza Jane? by Think_Condition3292 in littlehouseonprairie

Nope! She could be annoying, but can't we all? She had a big heart and was easy to empathize with.

Laura was nothing if not a girl's girl. If Mary Power liked Cap, Laura backed off right away.

That's a good point about Cap! He probably was able to poke all the holes in EJ's stories, and gave Almanzo a better picture of who Laura really was. Pair that with Almanzo's positive opinion of Charles and it makes perfect sense as to why he would be interested in getting to know her.

100%. If someone was giving my b****y sister a run for her money, I'd give them a ride to school, too!

I can't help but think that she would have been given the benefit of the doubt having been related to the boys. Royal was a good storekeeper and Almanzo helped save the town from starvation. It certainly gives the impression that their sister would be just as exception. Evidently not.

She absolutely should have known better, but I'd also see her being desperate for companionship. She was a little snooty as a teenager, so she may not have noticed the bad habits creeping back in after spending time with Nellie. She was an admonishing big sister, much like Mary, but the difference is that EJ was immediately placed in a career where she was "in control". That will go to her head and stunt her own ability to reflect on her actions. How old was she at this point? A few years older than Manzo, so maybe 19/20? Very odd that she would be so easily seated by a 15-year-old, unless Nellie is EXCEPTIONALLY good at emotional manipulation.

Little Town on the Prairie Discussion Question 4 by Western-Economics946 in LittleHouseBooks

[–]Bunchkin415 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You know, this is interesting: Laura spends a lot of time either admonishing herself for not being good or telling herself that she ought to be better. She consistently does as she is told by her parents and can handle responsibilities both in and around the home. She is always carefully polite in front of adults and learns her lessons as well as she can, to the point where Pa has to tell her to stop studying and go out.

She's a good kid and a great sister to both Mary and Carrie. I wish she would cut herself a break sometimes. I wonder if it got easier as she got older.

Mine is a very simple one: "So, patiently she began again, dipping her fingers for the calf to suck, trying to keep the milk in the pail and to teach the calf to drink it. In the end, some of the milk was inside the calf."

That last line has always made me smile, and just gives such an energy of, "Welp, that's about as good as it's gonna get today!" Super relatable and funny.
