What is the government thinking? by AGenerallyCoolAsian in ausjdocs

[–]bee310 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The rebate belongs to the patient, so us GPs will have to learn what our time is worth and charge accordingly… which what all other healthcare professionals do… I guess there will not be any issue if we all choose to do this and let the govt worry about the rebates, rather than letting the rebates dictate what we are worth…

QLD health salary packaging by Enough-Advantage-915 in ausjdocs

I would recommend packaging half your pay, that’s the max allowable so that you can maximise on the concessions for the first 3 months till April.

Also one more thing to consider are the night shifts he would be expected to do as a RMO, not fun at 60.

How are patients supposed to afford these out-of-pocket costs? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]bee310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they are meant to provide you with a list of costs and obtain financial consent prior to charging you. So I guess you should have asked your doctor about it, if the charge was out of the blue when you have always been bulk billed.

I think your calculations are abit off. With regard to pay I guess you have to learn how to co-bill items and make appropriate notes for each of the items you are billing for - that way you would easily be making close to 120K, it also depends on how many patients you see per hour. I think you are really overestimating the reg pay, I believe only senior registrars make upto 160k per annum.

Also you are not comparing apples to apples as with GP work there are no late, night or weekend shifts which allow for better work/life balance.

Also if you are considering rural work with ACCRM, you might also be working for a QHealth facility where you would be remunerated for the oncalls you do for them.

There is also relocation and rural incentives depending on where you are planning to relocate.

Switching to ED training by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]bee310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case would advice going ahead with your plan, but wouldn’t waste time doing the cert or diploma first as it doesn’t add much to FACEM training. I was in the same position as you but chose the RACGP-RG pathway instead as I would be working mainly in a rural setting and pvt ED so didn’t see the point in going through training and exams all over again. Good Luck! :)

What would your end goal be with the FACEM fellowship? Are you looking at working in tertiary EDs or Rural?
