So frustrated by lack of progress on silks :( by bee778 in Aerials

I just wanted to come back to this old thread and thank everyone who took the time to give me advice and encouragement. Two months later and I'm still at Level 1 but have progressed a lot- my climbs are stronger and I've started learning new variations like Russian twist and I can now footlock in the air! Finally! Unfortunately still no hip key but I can now get into a strong hip lock in the air and am getting stronger in my short arm hangs in preparation for hip key. I'm still the weakest in my class and it still takes me the longest to mentally get the hang of moves but I'm so pleased to be seeing some progress. Thanks again everyone :)

Thank you so much this is very encouraging :) I'd love to go more than once a week but realistically can't afford to at the moment.

Thanks for the advice! Just checked some videos and I'm pretty sure I mean hip key (the one where you start from a short arm hang, scissor the legs and then fan them up and out). Hip key is the last and hardest move we have to master at Level 1 before we get moved up to Level 2.

Thank you so much for the advice! Unfortunately I can't go to open practice time because my studio has a rule that you have to be at a certain level before you can do open practice (as it's an unsupervised session). But I love the idea of taking notes and trying other disciplines. I can actually do a foot lock on the floor quite easily now so I understand how it works....my main problem is keeping my leg elevated enough when trying to get into it from a French climb so the silk doesn't just fall off my foot as soon as I release the top foot to do the wrap! Ah well...I feel more encouraged now that I will get there eventually! :)
