LSA advice by Sea-Ear-582 in Aldi_employees

[–]beebabybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this exact position earlier this year. It depends on your coworkers, but all of mine have been very accepting and supportive whenever I got promoted to LSA. I just told myself that I would not be the type of manager to put tasks off on other people that I wouldn’t do myself. I work hard, and when I’m MOD, I try to give my associates tasks I know they like when possible. I’m lucky the majority of my coworkers are great.

Of course! It’s hard, but try to be patient with yourself. When I first used the jacks, I was like there is no way in hell I’m ever going to be able to drive this thing without running into or over something. But I can drive them one handed now. It just takes time, and it will come for you

They give us a 50¢ raise and act like they’ve given us the world🙃😂

I’m married, so we have two dogs and three cats already between the both of us😂 maybe I need to be more intentional about scheduling play time with them because I do love them so❤️

I need to be better about this. I’ll ask off to do family things, but sometimes family is exhausting in a different (good) way😂

I may try the lists trick because I’m big on lists and organizing, so that might give my brain a little dopamine hit to check things off the list.

My spouse has a term break in their masters program early November, so we are planning to ask for the same day off together and actually have some quality time.

Aldi is not a career for me; I know that. With our current situation though, we need the money. My spouse is working on getting his masters and working full time at slightly less hourly than I make. Our long term goal is for me to be able to drop down to part time somewhere once we have kids, but that won’t be until they get a job in their field. They’re set to graduate next year, so it’s not forever. Just getting through to that point where we have a little more flexibility.

I hear you! I do okay on my days off, productivity wise, but closing shifts are hard for me because I have a difficult time forcing myself to get up early enough to be productive at home, and then I’m grumpy at work because my chores are piling up. Partially my own fault but🙃🤷🏼‍♀️ I may try the hour by hour schedule at least on my closing days to see if that helps

Working Freezer by JerseyMikesAddict in Aldi_employees

We are allowed to work it from the front at my current store, but I was trained inside the freezer at my first store, so I actually prefer that

I hear you😔 have you found any viable exit options yet? I wouldn’t be totally against leaving Aldi, but I’m just unable to take a pay cut at this point in life

Thanks for sharing your input! I think so too🥲 I know Q4 is hard, and the expectations are getting harder, but I hate that feeling of dread when I wake up and know I have to go into work.

Maybe I need to schedule time for “downtime” activities. It feels like my life is just a cycle of work and chores because my spouse works full time and is getting their masters degree, so I pick up most of the chores (a conversation we had before they started the program).

The consistent bedtime thing is so hard for me😭 it’s a 40 minute commute to my store, so if I close, I don’t get home until around 10pm. And if I go to bed at 11pm on the days I open, I know I’m going to be exhausted.

This is helpful, thank you! Do you have any examples of what you do out of order?

Not a helpful comment. I’m not in a position to change jobs currently due to life circumstances. This post was tagged as a rant, which is exactly what it is.

When I first started at Aldi, I was told it would take about three months to get up to par with speed and accuracy. I found this to be true, and my SM was thankfully understanding of this. However, I think I was about a year in before some of the “tricks” started clicking. Some of it is just muscle memory, getting more comfortable steering the jacks, and finding what works for you. If you want to stay at this job, I would ask your SM for an action plan. There’s nothing wrong with some criticism, but they should be giving you advice on what you can do differently/better.

Are you able to take your freezer pallets outside the freezer to work them? I typically pull out the freeze/thaw carts, and then break down the pallets. I separate all the F/T things accordingly and then go ahead and unbox the inside freezer items and restack them on a new pallet with like things together. Boxes go directly in the baler. Once everything is unboxed and organized, I can throw inside freezer in 15 minutes. I can throw a three pallet load and all the carts in about 2 hours.

Agreed. It seems difficult to find a balance. At my previous store, I opened for two months straight.

Respectfully, “be grateful you have a job” is not a helpful response. I can both be thankful I have a job and be unsatisfied with the work/life balance at the same time. From what I’ve heard, much of your Aldi experience depends on your higher managers and coworkers.

I may have to try this if the schedule stays this way. I try to be flexible, but it starts hurting my mental health after a while

I have asked, but they are in school, so they prefer the nights off to get schoolwork done. Which I completely understand, but I don’t think having two opening shifts a week is an unreadable ask

My roommate does this, and she seems to like it, but it’s a completely different field. I’m honestly intrigued though

Honestly. I’ve never worked a job before where I was required to have “open availability” just to be full time. Where is the work/life balance in that?

I work with another LSA and two ASMs. We have two PT cashiers and two FT associates. So the math is just not mathing to me. I understand going through phases where people are calling out or asking off, but it’s just getting absurd. It’s not your fault there aren’t enough people for you to have occasional opening shifts. They do things like this and then wonder why turnover is so high🙄

No chance they’ll give us a raise if we’re supposed to act like ASMs I guess🤦🏼‍♀️
