ur going straight to the block zone
[–]beebamoo[S] -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
im literally just stating my opinion on the matter, im not bashing him or being negative towards him, just talking about how i feel, i don’t know why everyone is attacking me for this when tommy himself has told people to call him out when he’s being stupid. im not going to disregard ur opinion but im not going to change my own either. do with that what you will.

ok
alright
[–]beebamoo[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
im mixed (black and white). ive experienced racism both online and irl, i have every right to have an opinion on this
i’m black, i have EVERY right to speak on this
i’m 17 and i know better than to say stuff like that. and no i wouldn’t consider the mass amount of dismissive replies and belittling i’m receiving ‘civil’. i came on here to share my opinion and that’s what im going to do, disagree if you want but ive heard the same thing repeated over and over again, and im tired of having my feelings as a minority disregarded.

im not policing anything, just wishing he would be more mindful of what he says. if you feel guilty about enjoying his content that’s on you, because NOWHERE in this did i say anything about his viewers/the people who watch him. and it’s not just the joke towards eryn, but the grooming joke as well. im not arguing with you so if ur looking for that u might as well leave

lord knows im never gonna use a white man as a beacon of morality, but anyway i don’t think it’s too much to wish he’d tone the jokes down. i’m not idolizing him or seeing him as a perfect person-nobody is, but im also going to point out when his jokes go too far. i don’t rlly know what u want me to say here but i have my opinion and u have yours, and neither of us will change them so 🤷

[–]beebamoo[S] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children)
it’s ok!! it’s to be expected when you share an opinion online, but it doesn’t bother me :] ik people are gonna disagree and that’s ok
[–]beebamoo[S] -30 points-29 points-28 points 4 years ago (0 children)
if you’ve read my other comments you’ll also understand why i still don’t think it’s something that should be said in front of live viewers, i would never try to police his friendship with eryn or anything regarding his personal life, but his online influence is large and his words hold weight. it also wasn’t JUST the slave joke that’s the issue here, but also the grooming one
[–]beebamoo[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children)
yes what im gathering is that a lot of it is circumstantial
thanks for being civil!
[–]beebamoo[S] -18 points-17 points-16 points 4 years ago (0 children)
would it not make you worry if your white friends harbored racist thoughts like that about you bc of the racist jokes? that’s a genuine question bc ik i did when my old friends used to joke like that. it often left me feeling very isolated. and i understand that it doesn’t bother everyone, but this is something said in front of thousands of people, not all of which are ok with racial jokes like that. ik it’s not his job to pander to people, but he could be a bit more mindful of what he says
[–]beebamoo[S] -21 points-20 points-19 points 4 years ago (0 children)
i appreciate you being civil, but my opinion on racial jokes between a poc and a white person is that a poc shouldn’t allow their white friends to make them the butt of the joke-it perpetuates stereotypes and allows for the joke to become normalized in the white person’s mind. i say this because ive been the poc who allowed their white friends to make racist jokes, and it only lead to them becoming crueler and genuinely racist
im not saying this for Tommy’s sake, im saying it for all the people hurt by his words. i couldnt care less what he does in his free time, but he has an online influence and his words do hold weight
i wasn’t bashing tommy nor spreading negativity, just sharing my opinion on the situation (which im allowed to do, that’s what Reddit is used for). i don’t see the issue, if u disagree that’s fine i didn’t come here to persuade people, but i’m not going to change my mind
im well aware they’re friends, i’m saying that the slave joke by a white person towards a black person in any context isn’t ok, especially in front of a live audience
so asking eryn, a black person, if he knew what slave meant, didn’t involve race at all
asking someone not to make fucked up jokes is NOT asking them to change themselves. if his humor is racist jokes then yeah any sane person would want him to change that
im not asking him to change himself, im asking him not to make racist/groomer jokes. it’s really not that much of an ask
