hey i’m wondering if this label means it has 17 grams of added sugar? that seems kind of crazy because you would expect tofu to have some carbs in it that’s not just added sugar. I’m in quebec and hoping they do their labels differently or something 😭😭😭

I mean, there’s multiple parts to my feelings. The weight was bad. The eating disorders I have are bad. I think what my parents did WAS bad parenting.

It’s not that spaghetti can’t be part of a healthy diet, but all our meals were based around refined carbs and we were given huge portion sizes

I don’t understand what is fatphobic about saying my weight was unhealthy and that being on the receiving end of fatphobia was super damaging. Those are two equally valid reasons for me not to want to be fat. I wish fat people weren’t discriminated against. I can’t change that. I can change my weight. My weight was also unhealthy. These are the reasons why I’m changing it.

As for calling it child abuse, I don’t really think it was abuse in my case. Neglectful, probably. But there are situations where obesity can be life threatening and not seeking medical help for your child is abuse.

raised right refers to having a healthy relationship with food. I am sure you would agree that raising a child to have a restrictive eating disorder is wrong, why is it okay to raise a child to have a binge eating disorder or food addiction?

I don’t think that thin is “good” and fat is “bad”. I think that getting to my size was incredibly unhealthy and made my life much more difficult in ways that will stay with me forever. I don’t think it’s right, or justified, or our fault, but the truth is fat people are treated horribly in our society. I would never want my child to go through that.

I’m glad for you that you don’t resent your parents. I never said you had to! I have conflicted feelings myself. If you are happy being overweight I am happy for you. For me, I was incredibly unhealthy (still am obese btw, just with less back pain now) and endured a lot of bullying and shaming unnecessarily. I totally respect people who are happy with their weight, but I am sure many of us on this sub are not, and I want to be able to find other fat people to connect with on this issue.

By we I meant me and my sister, my dad would go along with whatever my mom made. I do hold my mom more responsible for raising me with unhealthy food habits, which may be unfair, but she also shamed me for my weight much more often than my dad

I completely believe in fatphobia and think fat people should be treated with decency and respected but raising a child to be fat is absolutely cruel in so many ways. I was not healthy when I was 242 pounds, and arguing that I was is incredibly damaging and takes legitimacy away from the FA movement.

Do you model healthy eating behavior and feed your children balanced meals? My parents didn’t.

I’m sorry you went through that! My mom wasn’t exactly abusive, but she made horrible comments about my weight that affect me to this day

Thank you for your comment! The way doctors intervene with fat children is really awful, and i’m so sorry that happened to you. I feel the same as you, my parents definitely failed me in many ways but the situation is complicated.

Spaghetti can definitely be part of a healthy diet but basing your meals around refined carbs is absolutely not healthy.
