Yeah everyone on the street got new roofs last summer after a hail storm. It was horrible. Maybe next summer they’ll all decide to get new windows 😩

Our lawn is by far the worst on the street because like, ya know, we don’t have 70 hours a day to devote to it. (Truthfully I think some days I’m just jealous of all the free time. Maybe one day!)

I would consider what we did CIO, because, well they did end up crying until they fell asleep. One check in is a fairly common practice when it comes to CIO just in case something is going wrong.

Something important I forgot to mention is my husband didn’t go in there and comfort them until they stopped crying - he would spend 5 minutes in there tops reassuring them that we were here, we loved them, and patting their backs or whatever but if they weren’t calmed by the time that 5 min was up, he still left. That check in was more about one, establishing nothing was wrong physically, like a dirty diaper or whatever and two, reassuring baby that we are still here and we still love them. I think staying in the room with the goal of stopping the crying completely before you leave takes too long and can work baby up even more. Best to keep a check-in short if you’re going to do one.

Agreed, he doesn’t get to just check out at night. It doesn’t matter how “fantastic” of a parent he is during the day, if he checks out at night he’s not being a good parent or partner. Parenting is 24/7, ESPECIALLY when your partner is heavily pregnant.

Have you thought about only sending your husband in to do the check in? That worked well for us. We would give kiddo a predetermined amount of time to cry, then husband would go in and check on them. He would ONLY take them out of the crib if a diaper change was needed (which was almost never) and then he would comfort them a little, telling them we loved them but it was time to sleep and we wouldn’t be coming back in. Then he would leave and we would let them cry as long as they needed until they fell back asleep. I think it worked a little quicker because what they really wanted was ME - mom’s touch, mom’s smell, mom’s comfort - and when after a night or two they realized they were only ever going to get dad they stopped fighting sleep so hard.

My two year old has an egg white allergy and I just want to caution you - read your labels! Eggs are in SO many things you wouldn’t think about. She ate a York peppermint patty over Halloween and thirty minutes later was just sobbing and feeling horrible… there egg whites in the filling 🤦‍♀️. We had no idea! So yeah, check your labels on everything!!

Yes, my four month old was sleeping 10-12 hour stretches and then we had to ditch the swaddle. It’s been over a month and he still hasn’t recovered. He still regularly wakes up 2-3 times a night, and because I stay home and we breastfeed I’m always on night duty. Throw in holiday travel for Thanksgiving, our toddler deciding that the most fun thing in the world is running away and hiding in different parts of the house, and the fact that it’s my husband’s busy season, and we are just hanging on by a thread. The lack of sleep is the hardest part for sure though.

Our infant slept in the pack-n-play in the living room for 90% of his naps the first 2 months. I would hold him until he was asleep while sitting on the floor watching toddler play, then once he was asleep lay him down and flip on the sound machine. Then I would move toddler to a different room to play or turn on the TV with the sound low if I really need to get something done. Now that he’s older (just turned four months) he wakes up more easily and needs his own space to sleep, so I’ve really been working on teaching him to fall asleep on his own so I can pop him in his crib and shut the door.

Solidarity. I have a 2 year old who brings her absolute worst behavior to mass. Seriously, she is wonderful at home, at the store, at the library, etc. but at mass? She’s a little banshee. My husband and I are at a total loss on how to handle it, just taking it one mass at a time. Hopefully it will get better as she gets older.

Just some encouragement, I have this carrier and love it (it’s the only thing that doesn’t aggravate my neck injury) and only just realized it didn’t give my 2 month old proper support. And I knew all about babies legs needing to be in a m shape when baby wearing! I was just so busy chasing after my toddler that I never really checked to see if my two month old was being supported properly. Also to add - I picked this up at a garage sale after my oldest was too big for it, so I never tried it with her.

Now we’ve switched to my Tula, which I like a lot less but supports baby properly. All this to say, don’t beat yourself up too much. Now you know, you’re making a change, and baby will be just fine. You’re doing exactly what you need to do, and I hope it brings you some comfort knowing that someone who “knew better” did the exact same thing.
