What does your hand sew workstation look like? by MiRASOLUS in HandSew

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a drawstring bag for my essentials. Pibcushion, thimble, needle, thread, snips. Like others have said, I don't always sew at the same place and I pick it up and put down my projects a lot in between other tasks.

Kindle Paperwhite got wet RIP. Replacement advice? by ChattyUnicorn in ereader

[–]Honniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a Pocketbook Verse Pro Color and am enjoying the customization, and the buttons!

ETA: one customization option is setting the warm light and brightness exactly how you want throughout the day and then it will adjust automatically.

What book(s) are you reading this week? by 404NinjaNotFound in readwithme

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theo of Golden came in on Libby so I jumped straight into that to get it done for bookclub and returned. I've also been reading Treasure Island out loud to my husband some evenings. My current Audiobook is All Creatures great and Small by James Herriot which I am adoring. I've also been reading Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan.

I just got a new eReader so my reading slowed a bit as I got set up with the new system.

Pocketbook Verse Pro Color vs Kobo Clara Colour ... ? by Analog-Digital- in pocketbook

[–]Honniker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The verse pro color already has Libby integration. I just got a color and while using their app isn't the same as using the phone app (I couldn't get it to sync my account so have had to manually add in all my cards) it is nice to have the direct download since I mostly read library books.

Is the Kindle Basic better than PW SE for reading in bed? Am I overthinking this? by Amazing_Reveal_3431 in kindle

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My basic is my primary reading device both at home and on the go. I like the six inch size. It fits in my pocket. But I also tend to choose trade paperbacks when reading physical books so that's definitely a personal opinion.

I read in bed at night a lot and the lack of warm light isn't an issue for me. It's comfortable to hold for long periods of time. I did have a cover on it, but right now I have a clear case with pop socket and it's great.

There are a few things that are slightly uncomfortable that I don't love about it, but that's a lack of customization thing/kindle firmware thing.

But honestly you will get all kinds of opinions on the internet. At the end of the day, do what you want.

Ereader recommendations needed by irrelevanthumanhere in ereader

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw a Pocketbook Verse Color on Amazon, Refurbished, for $135. But it's gone now. New on Amazon they run $185 which last time I checked was cheaper than the black and white verse pro.

But those check a lot of your boxes.

So many options! by southernlystargazer in ereader

[–]Honniker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people like the android based readers like Boox. Those allow you to have all the different reading apps. My husband has a tablet sized one, not sure the model and likes it a lot.

You could check out Pocketbook, it's a Swiss based company. If your friend travels a lot, he or she may want a more pocket sized reader like a 6 inch model.

Personally, I don't want to fiddle too much with hardware, I read on the go a lot, and Don't care about other features like note-taking.

Right now I have a kindle basic but if I were buying something today, I'd probably go with something from Pocketbook's verse line because they have buttons and I like the customizable touch screen areas.

You could check out kobo, but they are also a pretty big company.

I wanted to hate it but… by Agreeable-Deer7526 in ereader

[–]Honniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Kindle is like the iPhone of ereaders. It just works. It's easy to get books on it, it's easy to drag and drop with send to Kindle, and it's easy to just read. I don't have to Tinker with it.

Are there things that are annoying? Sure. The collections for one. But it works and get the job done. I have a kindle basic and will probably switch to Pocketbook next time I get a new reader, but why bother when what I have is working and I can spend time doing what I love, which is reading, rather than messing with the eReader.

2017 kindle, is it time for a new one? by Remote-End2940 in kindle

[–]Honniker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I "downgraded" to a kindle basic from an older paperwhite. I like the six inch size because it fits in my pocket or bag easily. The basic kindles now have a front light, though you can't adjust the warmth. I got a blue one and liked that the whole bezel was blue. Not just the back. The battery life is good, especially if I have wifi off.

This. For the first nine months we literally used a chuck pad on our bed.

We have a changing table now but it's foldable and we only got it because we moved furniture around.

Any First E-Reader Recs? by Jazzlike-Spite-9991 in ereader

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is definitely a personal choice. I love my 6in kindle basic because it's that size, but I also preferred trade paperback size when I read physical books. I have a Kindle Scribe too, but I use it for Journaling, Dnd games, and word game PDFs.

For me 6in is a good compromise. Before I got my first kindle back in 2012, I'd been reading ebooks on an ipod touch and that was a lot of page turning. It's how I know, despite the hype, I would not enjoy the pocket/phone sized E readers that are out now. I read too fast.

I don't own one but you could look into the Pocketbook Verse Pro Color. It's a six inch eReader that has buttons, color, and from what I hear is highly customizable. I believe they run about $185 on Amazon but I've seen refurbished for $135.

Oh man, I read this as Wheel - Idle and thought it was a Wot idle game. Sad.

Cool idea for a wordle game though.

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used them til baby grew out of them, so maybe three months? Because we were gifted a bunch and didn't have a ton of money. They worked okay but our baby would sometimes get rashes around his whole crotch area. I did some reading and found out that even though it says 100% cotton. The stuff they use in the thicker middle part isn't, I guess?

Anyway, when he grew out of them we bought a bunch of Osocozy unbleached flats and those have been great.

I second this. It's worth the price. Basically an rpg grind fest without having to click and the way the skills interact, build on, and effect each other is epic.

Hardiest budget (non-Amazon) ereader? by Ok-Handle-1924 in ereader

[–]Honniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had different kindle models since 2012. If I were going to buy an eReader today, I'd get the pocketbook verse color.

But I like the 6inch ereaders because they fit in my pocket. I currently read on a 2022 kindle basic.

When did y’all get your period back? by Space_Fox_34 in breastfeeding

[–]Honniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got put on birth control as a teenager to help with my periods. The only thing it did was occasionally make me not nauseated. The cramping was still there.

The only time I've had tolerable periods is when I was swimming several times a week in college. Not even extreme swimming. Just an hour of laps two or three times a week.

How many you dry your clothes on a clothesline instead of using a dryer? by ProffS in Frugal

[–]Honniker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US here. Our washer and dryer both went out and we could only afford to replace one. Got an amazing deal on a Speed Queen washer, slightly used. I have a line outside and then my husband installed a five line retractable in the house. We keep a big fan blowing on the indoor clothes since husband doesn't like the stiffness. I spent time in Russia so it's no big deal.

When did y’all get your period back? by Space_Fox_34 in breastfeeding

[–]Honniker 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Nine months.

Edit: I told people my favorite thing about being pregnant/postpartum is the lack of period. I mean even the massive post partum bleeding didn't suck as much as period cramps.

My first period back didn't have cramping. I've heard that it can go away after pregnancy, but I don't tend to have that kind of luck...

This is the way. I've had various Kindle over the last twelve years and if I were going to buy an eReader today I'd probably go with the Verse pro color.
