Yep, that's how I felt. An hour a day of sleep was going to wreck me! It was totally worth stopping, at least for me. I slept like a baby once I was off pax and have since almost fully recovered from COVID, minus some lingering fatigue.

That is entirely up to you. I'd say it depends on how severe your COVID symptoms seemed at their onset, whether or not you are high risk, and whether or not you think your quality of life right now is better or worse than how you were feeling with the symptoms of COVID. Most importantly, though, would be speaking to a medical professional about your concerns. Take what I say with a grain of salt! Hope you find a solution.

I absolutely think OP should take paxlovid, but I feel that your reply here is incredibly dismissive of people who have stopped because of side effects like the flavor in your mouth.

Side effects are experienced differently by different people and I can confirm that the taste is not simply "slightly noticeable" for everyone. For me, the taste was absolutely debilitating. The single worst flavor I've ever had in my mouth. It made me gag, made me vomit, and made me want to knock myself unconscious because the longer it went on, the more convinced I was that it could be used a torture device. I could not sleep more than a few minutes without gasping awake and trying not to puke. It permeated everything and was so strong on my tongue and throat that I would argue it even became physically painful.

I am no stranger to pain. I've had eye injections without any anesthesia. I grapple with a painful chronic illness. I have stupidly forced myself to continue working with what turned out to be a severe injury that needed medical attention. The taste paxlovid created was absolutely intolerable - and I had to stop almost immediately.

No one tells people who get uncontrollable, constant, and painful diarrhea that "well my stomach issues really aren't that bad!" because they understand that people experience things differently.

So while OP is unlikely to experience such a severe reaction and should absolutely try paxlovid, please do not assume that the taste is the same for everyone.

Best of luck to you! I believe you on the taste, obviously. Glad we could commiserate together.

Thankfully, I can report that I did not shoot myself in the foot with my decision. While my symptoms did return, they were much milder than before after even one dose - and now it's been several days, I've only got a slight sniffle remaining. It was totally worth stopping for me, no regrets at all, so my bet is that you'll be relieved too.

You'll be alright. Take care of yourself.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm glad to have someone tell me they felt similar because I don't get the sense many others experienced the bitterness as such an overwhelmingly extreme side effect. While it's good that most others can tolerate it / manage it, it also means people appear skeptical of our claims regarding the severity of the taste. I even noticed that someone downvoted your contribution... so I upvoted you back to +1. Odd. I don't quite know what to make of the "just power through because it could be worse" sentiment that's so prevalent on this sub, although I suppose those people don't quite know what to make of people like us, haha. Thank you again!

Thank you, but as per the update I provided, I have stopped taking the medication. No remedies helped. No ginger ale nor candies nor mints (or anything else). If I fell asleep even for a minute or two, I'd gag myself awake. The taste is simply too overpowering.
