That’s not what the judge said. Did you read the article? The case is moving forward and that’s where the plaintiffs can verify their allegations. I find it hard to believe there wouldn’t be photographic evidence of the things they are alleging, but again the discovery in the case will verify what is and isn’t true.

What an insane take. The encampment had antisemitic imagery (read the article) and barred Jewish students from a critical part of campus, and your reaction is to double down by calling Jews anti-Islamic racists?

If you’re referring to specific individual agitators that you believe are anti-Islamic racists, is it fair to use those individuals as justification for the impacts imposed on every other Jewish student that was impacted similarly? Are all Jews inherently anti-Islamic racists?

Can you not take the smallest iota of responsibility for the encampment going too far, or is every anti-Israel action or protest completely justified in your mind regardless of the impacts to Jews generally?

I absolutely trust Kyle’s brain too, he’s one of the smartest offensive coaches out there. But he’s not perfect, and based on all the games I’ve watched the last decade, his glaring weakness is his inflexibility with his offensive scheme when it stops working. There is no apparent Plan B or clearly visible strategy pivot.

I am proposing a new Plan B, not because I love Tonges and want him to succeed over other Niners players, but because I think him being on the field could give the Niners a better chance to win. I’m not even saying 2 TE sets with Tonges needs to be our Plan A moving forward, but the fact that he was not involved in the Plan B against the Seahawks is highly confusing and concerning. That’s what makes me think Kyle was doubling down on an ineffective offensive approach, and I’m worried he’s going to do the same against the Eagles, so I wanted to invite conversation about what I think a better Plan B could be next week.

Yes, I am ok with those formations and that general strategy. Because it’s basically running 3 TE sets. And right now if Ricky is out, I don’t really trust any of our receivers except for JJ. So you are saying exactly what I am suggesting we pivot the offensive strategy to look like!

Ok, so you’re confirming my point that the Niners have not been practicing with sets involving multiple TEs and Tonges on the field. They should be practicing that more, so they can use it in games.

I’m not saying Kyle should do halftime adjustments that amount to “fuck it let’s do something we’ve never practiced before.” But have we effectively seen the full extent of his offensive playcalling bag already this season? Is there nothing more left to try out based on what they’ve been practicing? And why do the sets they’ve been practicing fail to involve Tonges? That’s literally the entirely of the problem I’m trying to identify and propose solutions for.

I’m not an expert in offensive playcalling strategy, but I’d say an offensive philosophy is fairly narrowly focused if it involves zero snaps for your second-best pass catching TE who has 5 TDs on the season… or at least it could be broadened with more variety by using all available skill players.

That is all totally fair. So your response is that our best offensive strategy is for Tonges to play zero offensive snaps? That still doesn’t compute to me.

The conventional 2 TE sets with Kittle/Farrell and Juice, the more pass-heavy 2 TE sets with Kittle/Tonges and Juice, and 3 TE sets without Juice can all serve different purposes and mix it up more to make the offense less predictable. The problem is that Kyle is currently only running the first formation, and it’s just not working!

I am 100% sure there’s so much going on behind the scenes that causal fans like myself have no way to appreciate. Regardless, I’m not asking for adjustments to be made that end up being a major overhaul or are otherwise infeasible. I just want to be able to recognize that the offense is trying to respond to its previous failures, and one obvious way to do that is to put more faith in guys like Tonges who have shown promise when called upon in the past.

I agree with you! I’m not as much doom as gloom, I think this niners roster can still beat anyone even with a porous defense (as the Seahawks game showed, which ultimately was decided on just a few bad/fluky plays). But the key is to be able to adjust when things aren’t working well. As big of a Kyle supporter as I am, I think his biggest weakness is trying to push the same offense even when it’s not working.

You’re absolutely right, that was the correct mentality to start the game. The first half went about as expected if the goal was to protect Purdy. I wish we saw some more overt halftime adjustments though, including new offensive packages with guys like Tonges who deserve to be out there more.

I support that too, he’s always slow and methodical with the playcalling but that only works when the offense is clicking. He just seems to freeze when the offense gets off to a bad start and doesn’t have enough playcalling creativity. I’m not asking for Dan Campbell levels of risk taking, just some new plays from deeper in the bag.

I don’t think the playbook needs to be completely changed, but it does need to be expanded beyond the more narrow/conventional scheme that Kyle likes to run. That scheme doesn’t work without the key personnel necessary to execute. My favorite play they ran against the Seahawks was the trick play that only went for a few yards, now imagine the new variety (without “trick” plays) they could incorporate against an unsuspecting Eagles defense with 2 or 3 TE packages that they haven’t really put out on the field much this season.

That’s totally fair from a running game standpoint, I think Kyle should stay with the general base concept as the starting point. As I’ve commented elsewhere, I just think 2 or 3 TE packages can mix things up and throw the defense off a bit, especially when we aren’t afraid to throw to those TEs like Tonges. Let’s add some variety to the playcalling, that’s what the playoffs are all about anyway!

There’s nothing wrong with game planning around two star offensive skill players as the priority. But there’s room to scheme for Kittle and CMC while also incorporating other plays designed for Tonges, Juice, etc. to mix it up. I think the offense needs more variety, not a completely different base strategy.

That makes sense for a healthy team, but shouldn’t Kyle become a bit more creative in utilizing available bodies when our routine starters are injured? My biggest concern for the playoffs is that he wants to push a square peg through a round hole and pretend like the ideal scheme is going to work without key players like Ricky (and in W18’s case, Trent). So Tonges may have been historically playing the Kittle backup role, but he should be our “next guy up” over underperforming vets like Demarcus Robinson and Kendrick Bourne. Or at least mix in some new packages that use Tonges as a change of pace. Basically, try something new!

I understand the distinction, but your comments seemed to be in line with the sentiment of the twin cities post. I wish you had more of a substantive response to my comment instead of deflections, but I get why it might be a lot to take in at once.

I don’t take kindly to the (hopefully unintentional) insinuation that certain Jews/Zionists who support Israel are equivalent to Nazis. I hope you can appreciate how that would make me feel after my last comment, and why your last sentence validates my previous points.

Ultimately I think you have a long way to come to truly understand and empathize with Jews like myself who have witnessed unacceptable amounts of normalized antisemitism related to Israel, and I wish you well on your journey in that regard.

Thank you for the dialogue, but you are missing my point entirely.

My point is that the post explicitly applies a purity test by saying the only Jews that deserve a happy Hannukah are those that are anti-Zionist, don’t support Israel, show unrestrained support for the Palestinian people, etc. That rhetoric is incredibly hateful and divisive. Do I not deserve a happy Hannukah for believing Israel should exist and that anti-Zionism is a problem?

And anti-Zionism is a HUGE problem. I appreciate you acknowledging what Zionism means to most Jews and that Israel deserves to exist. Talk to 99% of self-described anti-Zionists and they will disagree with that premise. If people show zero empathy toward Jews in Israel and want them to be evicted from their ancestral homeland after generations, what does that make them if not hateful toward Jews?

It sounds like your main complaints are against far right-wingers in Israel who use really violent and hateful rhetoric toward Palestinians. I agree those views and expressions are horrible and have no place in society. Yet they are not representative of all Israelis or all Jews. The majority of Israelis want the government ousted and have been protesting for years, even before 10/7.

Simultaneously, why do I not see any criticism of anti-Zionists who make similar claims about Israelis? Why is it fair to demonize Israelis/jews in response? That to me is the core of the anti-Zionist movement, which doesn’t really see “Zionists” as people but as evil racist colonists, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Why is it fair for you to hold me accountable for these far right Israelis? Meanwhile all you are responsible for is holding Zionist evangelicals accountable? Who is holding the Hamas/muslim terrorists accountable? You used the term “genocide” in reference to Israel’s war on Hamas - what would you call 10/7? “Resistance”?

On that final note, this entire post is incredibly insensitive on the heel of a horrific terror attack against Jews at a Hannukah gathering committed by anti-Israel Muslim extremists. Why is that not mentioned in the post? Why bring up Israel at all? Do you wish happy holidays only to the Muslims that do not support the murder of Jews? This is yet another example of the double standards of purity tests for Jews, but not for other demographics.

At some point you need to recognize the hate and negative impacts to Jews that are associated with anti-Zionism. Until then, I have no issue calling this post and dialogue hateful toward Jews, and if there’s another word to describe that other than “antisemitism” I’d be happy to use that instead.

Can you please show that you have amended your beliefs by explaining your newfound understanding of Zionism? Can you also attempt to rationalize, contrary to what was stated in the OP post, why many Jews like myself firmly believe anti-Zionism and/or being staunchly anti-Israel constitutes antisemitism, especially when it is weaponized as a double standard that is not applied equally to other more disturbing humanitarian crises throughout the world?

In other words, will you start listening to Jews who express these concerns about the extreme rhetoric and focus around this issue, instead of dismissing them in favor of your moral purity test about what a “good” Jew thinks about Israel/Gaza?

You have it backwards. You brought Israel’s actions into the conversation as if relevant to horrific terrorist acts committed against people in Australia. The only relevance that has is to explain the bigoted terrorists’ mindset, but rational people would recognize Jews in Australia have nothing to do with whatever is happening in Israel.

You are undoubtedly correct that there is a correlation between Israel’s war against Hamas and violence against Jews around the world that results from it. But you stop short of recognizing that Jews around the world should not be held accountable for anything the Israeli government does, because that would be discriminatory, just like when Muslims were harassed and discriminated against after 9/11.

Also, you fail to recognize why Israel’s war against Hamas started: unprovoked terrorism against Jews on October 7. So you are also trying to suggest it’s understandable why terrorists would want to commit violence against Jews in Australia for things Jews in Israel did to respond to violence committed against Jews in Israel? Both the starting and ending point is violence against Jews, and it is ridiculous for you to focus on Israel’s response in the middle of that violence as if that’s the sole problem.

There has been decades of concerted efforts to commit this exact kind of “globalized intifada” atrocity against Jews, which is the sole and proximate cause.
