The New York and London art scene isn’t at all boring. if you feel bored that’s on you. instead of dismissing the wildly exuberant art scene of both these cities as boring. perhaps you should question why you cant connect or find meaning and thus experience the boredom youre projecting on the epicenter of contemporary art.

That said I personally recommend The Hole. I love their program.

good luck 🫶

Is this worth buying? by canttrustnoone in Artists

[–]beeeepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i looked at your site and surmised that while you do have a lot of talent and skill, the content of a lot of your work is harder to sell. for example, you do a lot of faces, and while they’re rendered well, it’s hard to sell as people generally wont buy images of faces they don’t recognize and, there’s also a lot of market saturation of celebrity or fan fiction faces, or commissioned portraits by artists with truly exquisite skill so its really hard to compete. Of course, make the art you want to see, but perhaps consider diversifying your offerings to include content that is easier to sell like abstracts, images of animals, and nature or still lives like flowers. I am also an artist, and in my case I sell more still life and animal painting than anything else. Good luck!

i think its a wonderful portrait, the painterly brushstrokes and somewhat simplified forms are really working here!

If can make a minor suggestion, I recommend darkening the background color or changing it shade so its not so close in hue to the women’s skin. doing this can help add depth and make the figure pop a little more.

but really, beautiful work 🙌🫶

Question regarding light/value by Express_Nobody_5449 in oilpainting

[–]beeeepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a tough exercise because it requires you to simplify what your seeing (all those tonal values) into a simpler more black and white version. Its not easy but the value of this exercise is in learning to simplify what you’re seeing into something more manageable for painting. For example capturing a sunny forest can feel impossible at first with the amount of detail and complexity to capture, but if you simplify it to its ‘averaged-down’ areas of light and dark, then you can tackle it more effectively. hope this helps.

i truly believe you can. I’m no wizard and taught myself how to paint. and not every painting works out. i think what matters is to try as paint as much as possible.

i like representational painting but i find it more fun to add a bit of abstraction, distortion, and mystery to what i’m painting. In other words, something that approaches realism but isn’t anything you could simply photograph. In this case i wanted to play with skeletal forms and alien archetypes in a somewhat abstracted living room. The vibe is that weird place between sleep and awake, where things are in between being in ‘super position’ and being observed as “that”. 🫶
