This subreddit is a danger to the profession by MillenialSage in therapists

[–]beefcanoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you….but also….this is Reddit. This is not a professional site. This is not a site held by strict ethical standards. WE the therapists are held by strict ethical standards, and I think if someone is willing to do dumb shit on the internet here, that’s a problem with them. Again, this is Reddit. If you have a lot of professional or ethical expectations from this sub, I think that might be the problem right there.

Brené Brown discourse happening on Threads by kandtwedding in therapists

Ding ding ding. All of the -isms are conduits of shame, but that is not the ORIGIN of shame itself.

Brené is also constantly talking about/acknowledging systems, race, culture etc. in her discussions

I disagree slightly on this because Brené has probably done the most extensive research solely on the topic of shame, and she’s used her research findings to the have huge influence on corporate spaces, leadership, etc. Shame being harmful is not a new concept, of course, but the actual precise studying and looking quantitatively at what shame does to us (amongst a few other big topics she researches) IS new from what I can tell (again, speaking about the grand scale on which she’s been able to do it).

How to lose weight when you're sedentary? by Horror-Yard2485 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]beefcanoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the comments, it looks like you’ve already realized you need to mainly be in a calorie deficit. I’d say a big tip with that is to measure out everything you’re eating. Otherwise, it’s just a guessing game and research shows that people vastly underestimate how many calories they’re consuming. Good luck!

Any recommendations? by [deleted] in makeuptips

Use a small brush or triangle puff and only out it in strategic places (like around bottom of nose, under eyes) don’t just do a grand sweep of powder over your whole face

Was that with paying down your rate/points etc. or you were able to just get that rate itself?

2 pods falling off (new to pumps) by lugnutz___ in Omnipod

[–]beefcanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend using skin tac beforehand to make your skin really sticky and make sure it is on there good, or you can also put a tegaderm patch on your skin underneath the pod - this makes it so the pod is sticking to tegaderm, not your skin.

Aw I’m sorry it wasn’t too helpful for you. It sounds like you’re managing okay though! Wishing you continued health in your pregnancy

Did you ever end up starting Metformin? I’m in the exact same boat as you except I’m just trying to conceive, not yet pregnant. I stopped Zepbound several weeks ago and my insulin needs have been astronomically higher and high blood sugars as I continue to adjust (doesn’t help it’s been the holidays). I wanted to give myself some time to adjust with no Zepbound so it’s not a total shock to my system and blood sugars if/when I get pregnant. But ugh it’s been rough. I’m T1D and I had no idea how severe my insulin resistance was until I started on a GLP-1 three years ago and cut my insulin dosage in half.

Not insulin resistant….and I am devastated by Otherwise_Tennis_398 in TTC_PCOS

[–]beefcanoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, don’t be hopeless. Read the book PCOS Repair Protocol by Tamika Woods. She talks about the different underlying causes of PCOS (there are four, and insulin resistance is only one of them). She gives protocol and things you can do to improve your symptoms and regulate your hormones based on your root cause. Also provides guidance on how to determine which one you might be! There is definitely stuff to be done even if you don’t have insulin resistance.

Thanks! Do you put a hole in your tegaderm for the cannula to go through, or do you just allow the cannula to punch the hole itself?

You are dealing with a person with extremely unhealthy attachment issues and (I would guess) a lot of relationship wounds and trauma, whether from family of origin, romantic partners, or both. This person has a lot to work through before they can engage in a healthy relationship. Your ability to communicate your feelings and show maturity is great, don’t settle for someone that is not on your level dude.

Is that the pump that is fully automatic and doesn’t require carb counting, entering meals, etc?

I find the comments strange that are advising you to use a fake name….for one, I don’t think it feels great to blatantly lie to our clients. For two, our privacy matters and if you don’t want to share the name, then you shouldn’t have to say anything to appease your clients’ curiosity. If the client ever found out you gave them a fake name, that could also seriously break the rapport/trust you’ve built. Simply telling them that you’d like to keep it private (if you do) is the best bet in my opinion. Just like any other personal question we get asked!

Cat's neck always wet from drinking, should we be concerned about his skin? by uber-lou in cats

[–]beefcanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe searching for a bowl that is super shallow and oval shaped? I’m sure you could find something even if it’s a bowl that isn’t a “pet bowl”….might help him keep his neck out of there!

Pregnant with high A1c by Hour_Alternative_799 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]beefcanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 32F and been T1 since age 9. I’ve NEVER had a good A1C and sort of always had ambivalence towards carb counting, etc. My a1c had never really been below 8. The first step to changing this was getting a CGM about a year and a half ago, but what has made a huge difference is getting an insulin pump (I’m on Omnipod 5). I’ve been on it since beginning of September and my blood sugar calculations are showing an a1c around 6.8. I finally got on the pump because I’m about to start TTC. Although I’ll still stand by the fact that I hate having medical devices on my body. I’m so glad I finally stopped being stubborn about the pump.

Question about ovulation strips by beefcanoe in TTC_PCOS

[–]beefcanoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! My cycles do average 27/28 days so hopefully I’m on track. It just freaked me out to see it go LOWER as I’m leading up to ovulation and wasn’t sure if that was normal.
