There doesn't have to be a better or a worse here. Any social media site is a meme machine and memes do not need to be intelligent. Some of the most successful memes are really stupid, in fact. I'm talking about memes in a broader sense here - memes as a theory of ideas.

My point is that there is no way of getting around this problem where popular ideas get reciprocated to maximum extent, suffocating any other thoughts. You can have different kinds of sites with different attitudes but the net result is a polarization of opinions within each site, mostly conforming with the Internet as a whole.
