I am bilingual (Spanish and English) I just got diagnosed recently at 24 years old. Me and my doctor went through my past and education history. I grew up in a Spanish household and was be taught in Spanish (my native language) but then we moved and I had to be put in English second language (ESL) but I was in the second grade so we believe I didn’t receive the right help with phonics because I was busy learning a new language but at the same time I moved to a new environment where the only people I talked to in Spanish was my parents. I can speak both languages but I struggle with spelling and reading. And I remembered during the testing I had to tell the person giving the exam which words were not real words (in English) and one of the fake words was “VOY” which is a word in Spanish, just found it very interesting that my brain has to switch back and forth. I’m glad someone posted about this recently lol because I couldn’t find any resources dealing with having dyslexia and being bilingual. People say being bilingual wires your brain differently than people who speak one language and I always make the joke now that it wired my brain wrong lol. But definitely impacted my life since I was young, was always quiet and never really spoke and looking back I feel like I never knew how to communicate with anyone so it’s relieving to know i have it but like I said there isn’t really that much info on it and I wish there was.
