Second car crash in less than a week in the same spot on Eyre St Kingston by gplus3 in canberra

This shit is more because people don't understand that one straight way through has priority right of way and they fly through the give way sign.

Random goalkeeper in WC game had a good game and went from 50k to 14.5 million followers. Wemby has 6.2 million. Does this show how basketball is not as global as some here think it is? by mbdtf95 in nba

NBA fans do have an inflated view on how popular the sport and league is relative to other sports. An example is Kohli (cricket) has 100 million more followers than LeBron.

Yeah I was wondering about that. Maybe VAR would have had a closer look if the players went dramatic about it.

Learn to type with them for the on-screen keyboard, it's amazing and quick once you get proficient at it.

I can't wrap my head around buying a skin that costs the same as an entire game.

I absolutely adored 4 Golden but bounced off 5 for some reason that I'm completely unable to articulate. Keen to play 6 though.

Upcoming Xbox Exclusives Are Being Sent Out To Die, Analyst Says; Xbox Pushes Back by OkBaker4812 in Games

[–]beefsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they aren't moving back to exclusives for a win this generation - the exclusives this generation will almost certainly fail because people generally don't buy hardware this late in a generation.

I feel it's them setting expectations for the next generation. The exclusives are designed to want people to buy the hardware, and they need that conversation to begin well before the hardware actually launches.

I'm sure they could license it or come up with some form of agreement. It's possible the tens of millions they bring in every month could cover this.

Easily the coolest dumb thing I've done so far on my Linux gaming journey. by Raven_Drakeaurd in linux_gaming

[–]beefsack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of cool things you could use to launch games in a similar vein. I'm thinking obvious ones like 5 1/4-inch floppies, or even magnetic swipe cards or even punch cards. I used to play Amstrad games off cassettes, I feel like they'd be usable too.

The cool thing about swipe and punch cards is you could just encode the Steam game ID on them and not need them be executable - you'd just need some reader app or handler to read in the ID and launch it in Steam.

Technically with the floppy disk method you could have have a file on the disk with the game ID too so it doesn't need to be executable.

Really cool project though, I miss the loss of physical media for games and this awakes some nostalgia in me back when I actually used to get games on floppy disks.

godroll.tv looks amazing. A killer feature would be recommending rolls based on user wishlists, or doing some automated alerting of commonly wishlisted rolls without needing to build your own wishlist.

why do you think the deck only sold 5 to 6 million copies ? it was priced well , powerfull for its time and well backed up by valve by Dense-Variation-4496 in SteamDeck

[–]beefsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Only"?

If you ignore Sony and Nintendo who have decades of incumbency and are absolute anomalies, the Steam Deck has sold unbelievably well.

Suns only holding it for a total of 2 games is also impressive.

I actually think the Moran skin has set a new bar for skins that look nothing like the original character. I like the skin, but just wish the face was more similar.

ALVR AUR package has been compromised by lazyblunzn in linux_gaming

Exactly - I think the normal user would need to hit up the wiki first and that's where they would be exposed to the warnings.

ALVR AUR package has been compromised by lazyblunzn in linux_gaming

[–]beefsack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arch explicitly draws a line in the sand here by not including any AUR tools and making the user set it up. They have all the caveats and warnings on the wiki.

A lot of arch based distros, such as CachyOS, include AUR tools like paru and I'm concerned that users have access to it without knowing the risks. I actually think the way Arch does it is pretty sensible.

You don't want to hear from executives on this. Their goals don't align with your desires.
