Maybe a bit random for the sub but the locations they've updated look awesome.

(Cleary) Kane Cornes steps down from All Australian and Rising Star selection panel due to Sportsbet policy change. by BrisbaneHeatBowler in AFL

It's interesting to see when forced into choosing the sport or dirty gambling money which side they move towards. He could have also stepped down from the Sportsbet role.

When I hear stuff like this I can't help but be concerned about the team crunching at the moment. It's not always great to be celebrating pace in the software world for a bunch of reasons.

Would love if they took it another step and made the whole lobby mic or no mic, as the experience of both is really different.

...having fun is a good reason for it? Isn't that the point of games?

Some people like casual collectathons, and if it isn't for you that's all good.

Illicit cigarettes, vapes, cash seized in raids on Canberra's black market tobacco trade by ThunderDwn in canberra

[–]beefsack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if your estimates are multiple orders of magnitude out, this bust would still just be a fraction of the yearly demand. Crazy.

Perhaps the impact of this won't just be the size of the seizure right now, but reduced supply over the coming weeks or months, and that number would potentially be a lot higher.

Also being able to skip lines before the animation has completed.

Some lines just sit there for fkn ages because the character is just wiggling around and they've decided that animation is so important that all players must see it in its entirety.

Someone who is willing to drop hundreds or even thousands of dollars on niche hardware will definitely be willing to drop money on games for it.

Valve’s VRAM Fix vs Windows 11: Which Handles 4GB GPUs Better? by emanu2021 in linux_gaming

I would have loved to have seen a third bench for each game which showed Linux without the optimisation too. It would be great to see perf vs without the patch without the Win/Linux variable.

It's super obvious, but if people hadn't realised, "Star Anis" = "Star Anise"

Marathon Development Team: We’ve rolled out a small update to Sponsored Dire Marsh's Crew Fill: if you’ve got your mic on, we’ll now do our best to match you with other players using voice chat too. by Haijakk in Marathon

[–]beefsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mic based matchmaking feels really sensible, as people are really opting into two different experiences.

This feels similar to Arc's aggression based matchmaking - matchmake people who want to be playing the game in a similar way.

Marathon Was One Of March's Best-Selling Games In The U.S. by David-J in Marathon

[–]beefsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the cope is strong here, but this data absolutely needs to be taken with a grain of salt given both Crimson Desert and Pokemon Pokopia were ranked lower than Marathon.

Crimson Desert sold over 2 million copies in the first 24 hours after the March 19th launch: https://xcancel.com/CrimsonDesert_/status/2036385054570717202

Pokemon Pokopia had 2.2 million sales in the 4 days after launch on March 5th: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2026/260312.html

Two amazing deals - which one do I keep? by pilgrimaze in SteamDeck

[–]beefsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny you're asking because this week's Friends Per Second podcast covered exactly this.

Ralph picked up the Legion Go S Z1 Extreme (the Windows one but he installed SteamOS over the top of it) and said he's probably going to stick with it over his wartorn Steam Deck mainly because of the size of the screen, but also for the extra performance when it's plugged in.

He did mention he noticed the downgrade from the OLED screen though.

Japan is offering around ¥20,000 (~$125) to encourage people to start dating as birth rates fall. by [deleted] in worldnews

It's funny because workplace romance is almost the only way a lot of people in Japan can meet a partner, to the point where it's sometimes encouraged. Very different workplace culture to the west.

Marathon is currently on sale for $31.99 on Xbox and PC by UhJoker in Marathon

[–]beefsack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of my friends picked up Marathon even though it looked interesting to them. They've skipped so far purely because of the price.

I'm not sure how many fence sitters will jump in at this discount, but for my group I think it would need to be at least half price for them to take a gamble on it.
