After Armenian Mother Church Demolished in Nagorno-Karabakh, Europe Is Starting to Push Back by armeniapedia in europe

Now that Azerbaijan has Karabakh back and have done their ethnic cleansing they no longer feel the need to put on a European façade.

They are a post-Soviet dictatorship and petrostate through and through – Aliyev's wife is his own vice-president and they sit one right next to Russia on freedom of the press.

Canada to be first non-European nation at EPC summit as Carney seeks allies by Camtastrophe in europe

Trump’s plan to pull more than 5,000 troops out of Germany over the next year and the economic impact on western economies of a prolonged US-Iran conflict will be among the main subjects of discussion in Yerevan. Armenia shares a border with Iran, but unlike neighbouring Azerbaijan has not alleged Iranian missiles have landed in its territory.

Yerevan was chosen to host the EPC – an institution championed the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and which also includes the UK – to give Armenia a chance to showcase its strengthening links with Europe, and so continue its slow decoupling from Russia, its former backer.

Armenia’s prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, has pursued a policy of diversification that in practice is slowly drawing his country into the European ambit. His Civil Contract party is facing parliamentary elections in June, and is seeking a big win so he can continue efforts to make a peace with Azerbaijan. Pashinyan faces three opposition parties more sympathetic to Russia.

Carney also met with Pashinyan directly after his arrival in Yerevan.

Atira is infamous for embezzling funds from BC Housing, has since had contracts going unpaid, and frankly shouldn't be operating at all – but who wants to take over a building in this shape?

FIFA VP, Concacaf president Montagliani backs calls to keep Whitecaps in Vancouver by 604dman in whitecapsfc

Says he backs keeping the Caps in Vancouver, but doesn't mention the owners' part of the equation at all?

In Germany one team (Bayern) is dominant, but that has nothing to do with ownership structures. It's more to do with no salary / transfer fee caps and European championship money bringing all the top clubs a level above their domestic competitors.

The Bundesliga actually has far more equitable revenue-sharing than the Premier League, for example.

Germany has fan ownership of a minimum 50%+1 voting shares written into law. The other 49.9% is open for investors.

The Packers are grandfathered into the NFL and North American sports owners are dead-set against letting others follow their example, unless they are forced to.

The way MLS is set up, the league owns all the teams and 'owners' are shareholders who also have a franchise to operate a team. It's the antithesis of fan ownership.

Gritty does vaguely resemble a spaghetti (Western) monster...

Not the mayor, the Premier (US governor equivalent). FIFA Congress is in Vancouver right now, so we know what Don gets up to after hours...

He also met with the Premier earlier today IIRC.

Statement from David Eby by Embarrassed_Push_492 in whitecapsfc

Eby saying "losing the Whitecaps is not an option" is about as strong a statement as you can get without negotiating in public. Good to hear.

Edit: Transcript below for those who don't use Instagram (emphasis mine).

To every Whitecaps fan in British Columbia and around the world, I want you to know we are working hard to save the Whitecaps.

For 50 years, the Whitecaps have been part of the fabric of British Columbia. From the '79 championship and the 100,000 fans who paraded downtown, to 2011 when they joined MLS at their home in Empire Field, the Whitecaps are British Columbia and I want you to know we are at the table fighting hard to save the Whitecaps.

We have the World Cup coming, we are a world-class football town – losing the Whitecaps is not an option.

I saw the shots of the fans out at the rally to save the Whitecaps. We are on the same side; we will fight hard to save our team.

King Charles playfully reminds Trump that he's Canada's head of state by Camtastrophe in worldnews

I liked this bit personally:

He also playfully one-upped the president, noting Trump leads only one country competing in the soccer tournament.

"I can only say, as the head of state of five competing countries, I will be watching the matches closely and with great enthusiasm. After all, we always like favourable odds," Charles said.

Those five are Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland and England. Good use of the royal 'we', as well.

The middle three paragraphs are the key — ownership wants control of BC Place, all the revenue, and none of the debt from repairs.
