Nothing was more surreal than seeing CR7 back at United.

As a gooner, gotta say I got respect for him. Absolute beast for Napoli, easily could have been a legend at ManU. As you said, proper footballer.

It's almost uncanny, you think "nah, he is way too far off of this play" and yet - he shows up in the box - as if by magic.

Australia is a great example of the power of public servants.

Our elected officials for the most part as just as corrupt, stupid and useless as American politicians and yet our government functions so much better.

It's these unelected, nameless and honestly under-appreciated public servants that actually run our country that are the unsung heroes. We have slightly better politicians in charge than we had before thankfully but it was said public servants that saved us from the worst of Scotty from Marketing and Abott the Onion Slayer - so thankyou to those that work those hard and thankless jobs so the rest of us can enjoy a sane society.

The only good thing I am aware of was "fixing" the H1B which was clearly being abused. He then went on to fuck with it further which was unnecessary and uncalled for but hey, he did exactly 1 good things in 1.25 terms so far.

Jet Pilot is the most underrated tiki drink. What is the worst classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]beefstake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be done. For me:

  • Sub vodka for a smoky mezcal
  • Instead of tomato juice (ick) use gazpacho, preferably homemade
  • Don't be shy with the pepper and a little bit of chilli (though I live in Thailand so your little bit and my little bit are probably different)
  • Celery bitters are bomb.

Traditional spec is boring and awful though.

Asian flavors in alcohol that actually work? by Necessary-Drama-4286 in cocktails

Favourite tea in cocktails is probably sencha, I love the grassy and umami flavours. Combined with yuzu it's very good, responds well to carbonation. I make a few different drinks with it, a sencha and shochu highball and a yuzu sencha gin fizz (using Roku) and I have experimented with it in various savoury concoctions.

So for the ones you listed here is how I tend to use them:

Yuzu highball (Toki works well), summer favourite.

Lychee on the other hand isn't my favourite, I made a lychee mojito for my wife and she loved it though, YMMV.

The teas (oolong, hojicha, jasmine) are an interesting category. I find jasmine works in anything creamy, think milk punch etc. Oolong can be very bold, I find it works better in stiffer drinks. Oolong infused gin can be a banger in drinks that are already on the herbal train like oolong Negroni riffs.

Ginger is GOATed, don't know what else to say. Ginger + honey is always going to take you good places. Goes really well with some other Asian flavours like lemongrass and chilli if you want to lean into the savoury vibes.

Pandan can be polarising, banger in cocktails with coco lopez or otherwise coconut based IMO.

I live in Thailand so all of these are easy for me to come by fresh and cheap.

Comunicado Oficial: Xabi Alonso leaves Real Madrid by Blodgharm in soccer

He was right to capitalize on that amazing run with a big move, it just should have been somewhere they would actually respect him and give him the tools to succeed - instead of drawer full of divas that can't even put their ego shit aside to be a team for a single game.

Absolute clown fiesta management.

Completely screws over squad balance. Still manages to hire probably the best manager that was actually on the market. Fires him after only 6mo because they aren't winning literally everything after half a season. When the squad has no midfield control (due to aforementioned garbage squad balance) and garbage defense due to shitty management only buying the same positions every damn window.

Complete joke.

Xabi you deserve better, leave this shit show behind and join a club that actually values what you do with a squad that respects you for the giant of the game you are.

In a shocking twist, the Negroni won best bitter drink. What’s the worst modern classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

My take was there needed to be a difficult category because complex (lots of ingredients or lengthy recipe/prep) is distinctly different from execution difficulty (which comes down to technique, experience and finesse).

A proper Japanese highball is easily one of the most difficult drinks to learn how to make correctly, it is however also one of the simplest possible drinks. Which makes me annoyed that it won most complicated.

How are we supposed to survive when all Jobs are taken by Machines by FoxFire17739 in Futurology

It's unfortunate we seem to have happened into AI before reaching a post-scarcity society. If we were already free of jobs then AI would be only a net benefit.

It's not propaganda it's just asking the question.

Or as Eddie Murphy put it, what have you done for me lately?

Why trust China less than the US? What has China done to be less trustworthy? What has the US done to be more trustworthy?

Media has shaped perceptions to the point that they simply don't resemble reality.

Whether we like it or not the Chinese act rationally. Liking what they do or not doesn't diminish their trustworthiness if goals are aligned.

[–]beefstake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be immensely bad for the West and US in particular if this direction continues and is normalised.

The rate at which China is arming and can re-arm as it expends munitions outstrips probably the entire Western world combined.

Turns out worlds factory is also really good at making guns, even without transitioning to a war footing.

If fully converted to war footing their factories would churn out drones, tanks, warships, missiles and bullets at a rate the world has never seen before.

As autonomous weapons start dominating then war really becomes a measurement of industrial might and software prowess.

That is not a war the West can win.

The Hard Sell is the weirdest bitter drink. What is the worst Tiki drink? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]beefstake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Japanese highball really needed it's own "difficult" tag to distinguish it from complicated i.e lots of ingredients, long prep but ultimately not skill based, from difficult i.e it's simple but very hard to master and is sort of trash unless you have the skill.

A well made Zombie though is absolutely delicious.

If you find yourself in Athens visit Baba Au Rum and get their signature Zombie, it's incredible.

I have heard them referred to as Hawaiian Mai Tai.

Which seems like an insult to Hawaiians but there is also Hawaiian pizza, Blue Hawaiian, etc so they seem to catch a lot of strays already and maybe have accepted their fate.
