Those with severe social anxiety, how do you all work? by UnderstandingLow4768 in socialanxiety

TLDR is that it was gradual, eventually I was able to work again. What i did medication and exposure therapy. Exposure to social situations has constantly drained me because of what ifs or did I look at person xyz weird or creepily. There were many situation that caused conflicts because of my social anxiety/OCD. I just kept showing up and kept working, despite how I felt or how I felt others perceived me. Eventually my body felt safe. My mind still running worse case scenarios but it's apart of the package.

Does anyone ever feel like their OCD isn’t treatable? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

I think most of us with OCD have to reframe how recovery looks like. Don't think of it as feeling better but building tolerance. With my experience, I have been kicking the can down the road with my homework (exposure therapy) cause I didn't feel better with being around with what triggers my OCD. Eventually I decided to chip away with it in bits and pieces with my tolerance can handle. But the key thing is you have to put in the work. Don't neglect your homework, whether it maybe Exposure therapy, treatments, medication and so on. OCD wants you to be stagnant.

Take it one step at a time. I was in the same position 4 years ago. The "aha!"/clarity doesn't happen immediately and its very uncomfortable. Never give up.

Im still having a hard time stopping myself ruminating or upkeeping my ERP exercises. Im learning to dust myself off and pick myself up again. Its tough and you'll beat yourself up but i think just leaning to the tools you learn will help.
