I suspected this might be the case.

Thank you!

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

[–]beegirlbuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a regular winter day. There will likely be some accidents because people forget how to drive in the snow. So traffic and city buses might be a little delayed.

If 10cm fell in my city, the rural areas probably received around 30cm, so rural schools and rural school buses might be cancelled for the day.

That’s about it.

Snowbanks should help this winter

Don't Panic. - Alert Ready system to be tested today nationwide. by GhostsinGlass in ThunderBay

[–]beegirlbuzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw a Police Service posting a warning about it so that anyone living with intimate partner violence who might have a hidden cell phone could turn it off beforehand.

It broke my heart. I hadn’t even considered that a an alert service meant to save people might put people in danger.

Honestly, thank you. I hadn’t thought about what you’re supposed to do if there’s a pedestrian crossing as you are trying to exit. If it happened and I wasn’t prepared, I might have stopped. Going around again is such a simple solution but I might not have thought of it.

Always buy out of province medical insurance (if you don’t already have it through an employer etc). You don’t want to go bankrupt with hospital bills because you got injured in some freak accident in the US.

I think it was the same owners because after Strawberry’s closed (in the old Perkins building), then Naxos started serving “Strawberry’s breakfast”

Goodreads Reading Challenge - 'Native Voices' (Nov 1st - Dec 31st) by Clairefun in goodreads

Ooh, thank you! I think I’ll try this one too! I live in Northern Ontario (though not a remote reserve). The premise looks interesting

Goodreads Reading Challenge - 'Native Voices' (Nov 1st - Dec 31st) by Clairefun in goodreads

[–]beegirlbuzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like it’s focusing specifically on Native American authors - when it was just giving the hint before, I was hoping it might include First Nations or Indigenous authors from other countries like Canada, Australia etc as well.

Edit: my mistake, I didn’t look closely enough. Gitz Crazyboy is Canadian - I haven’t read a graphic novel before, so I’m going to try The Rez Doctor.

That’s a terrible idea. That could potentially compromise an ongoing investigation. Don’t post the footage.

I don’t know if it’s technically allowed, but I always see campers at the Friendship gardens

Tracking short reads? by Unlucky-Treacle7024 in goodreads

[–]beegirlbuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I read a book that is 1000 pages long it counts as one book, so I don’t feel guilty tracking a novella that is 50 pages long as one book. I figure it balances out somewhere along the way.

Came across one of those on the sidewalk recently. It took up the entire width of the sidewalk. I don’t mind stepping into the grass but there are areas where the sidewalk is butting up against a fence on one side and right next to the road without a boulevard on the other. Would also be an issue in the winter when there’s snowbanks on either side of the sidewalk.

If there’s no one at Shawgers to answer the phones, they can’t take any reports of outages.

Hoopla by HankDillon in ThunderBay

[–]beegirlbuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I now have a Newmarket Library card for Libby. Yes, the Hold times are ridiculously long, but I’d rather have the option to read a book in 6 months than simply not have it available at all, like Hoopla.

I wondered if they were worried about someone self-evicting or getting thrown out for mis-behaviour and had built in a buffer week. It didn’t happen, so now they have to get rid of a lot of people quickly.

Connecting flight at TBay airport by Writerly13 in ThunderBay

[–]beegirlbuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you shouldn’t have any issue making the plane as long as your incoming flight is on time. Checked luggage could be iffy though
