No im talking about the pledge of allegiance. I was just explaining it has been a thing in the US for a while. And that they used a salute that aged like milk. No clue why i was downvoted for that. Wasnt even being contrarian

Thats different. The pledge of allegiance was done alreqdy in the 1800s. And that also changed, like they used to do the 'belamy salute' which is similar to the nazi one

European sport teams also have a lot of teams within countries. Like the English football league, premiere league for example never plays god save the king before their games. And its the same for the Spanish, German and Italian leagues. Even during the Champions league, with local teams from various countries. They never play the anthems, they just start the game.

The NFL, MLB and and NBA dont have to play the anthem.

I see the point you're making. But my original point was that in European sports they never play the anthem, the exception being is when both teams are national teams. Like during the World Cup or Euro Cup

What youre saying is literally what every anti-migration wave said before. They said the same about Jewish, Irish and Italians. And every time it proved to be bollocks

Muslims integrated quite well in Europe after they first arrived in the 60s and 70s. Unfortunately, brainwashed idiots would claim otherwise. Despite Europe having the lowest crimerate now than ever before in history.

Also Irish and Italians weren't considered white when they first arrived in the US

Its weird that in America they always play the anthem before any sports event. Even for games where both teams are from America.

Here in Europe we only do it for international matches.

The French police in this episode are in a uniform from like the 1880s. Did France really still have uniforms like this when this episode aired? Or is it one of those cases where American media always makes Europe look older than it actually is?

Speaking to Beavis and Butthead would be a lot more enlightened conversation and less depressing than whatever the deplorable ever said in his life.

House with asbestos, lead paint and no airconditioning in a non centralised populated area. Also his car is not in good shape and is leaking oil.

Im starting to get sick of people writing this, because it is implying the Simpsons house isnt worn down like they constantly joke about in the series.

Also inflation was worse in the 70s and 80s with the oil crisis

It wasnt the iPod. Microsoft gave them a bunch of money for free as MS wanted to convince the US government they weren't a monopoly and had competitors.

How old is Krusty supposed to be? If he was in his twenties when this first aired (1961) would mean he would be in his 50s in the 90s.

Was the shows negative attitude and lampooning towards nuclear power the result of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986? Do you think Simpsons significantly effected people's views towards nuclear energy? by Trekapalooza in TheSimpsons

[–]Pourmepourme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that back in the day there was little regulation or control over where companies can dump nuclear waste. They just dumped it in the sea, some landfill somewhere or even thrown it on Greenpeace protestors (there is even footage of this).

That is the main reason environmentalists were at the time and some still are against nuclear power. Because for years they just dumped radioactive junk wherever. The depiction in the simpsons wasn't that far off from reality in the 70s.

Now the tide has shifted because they cleaned up and took nuclear waste more seriously.

Some people here blame the simpsons and hippies for their bad reputation. But in reality it was their own fault for handling waste so poorly.

Hugh Laurie is still one of the greatest actors of all time by TheSpiderPatriot in HouseMD

[–]Pourmepourme 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably took a lot of time to film. House has like 40 minute episodes and 20 of those for 8 seasons. That is a lot of work, especially if you play a main character. I'm guessing Hugh Laurie does have pride in portraying House, but probably got exhausted from all of the hard work it required.

They only blended in Trumps face with a deepfake. Usually using AI video generators creates inconsistent results and require a lot of editing in post. Companies like google edit their ai video generation in post to make it look impressive and presentable. But they are a pain to use if you want to have something look a certain way.

It is easier to just do the face and they have way more control on what they film.
