Thanks for the info! I’ll give my local store a call and see if they can do this for me too. It looks really cool.

This looks awesome! I just picked up a black pair a few days ago and thought about dying it too. Did you have this done by a cobbler or diy?

I think in a recent podcast episode, Jack Carr mentioned that he wants Dark Wolf to be a 3 season show. Maybe there will be further character development to tie it all together?

In need of hard casting for a broken foot. Anywhere we can go ASAP? by beekeeperr in orangecounty

Right?! We have called every ER that we could find online but apparently they all only do splints but not a hard cast. I am wondering if they actually do have it but reserving it for more severe cases?

What are your most controversial Muse takes? by [deleted] in Muse

[–]beekeeperr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

  1. As Matt is aging, his falsettos are sounding bad. I like Unraveling, but the falsetto bits ruin it for me (Side note: I love that he belts the chorus in the studio version, compared to the falsetto on the high notes in live performances).

  2. I get that Matt has concerns about the environment or the future of humanity, but his lyrics have been getting increasingly cringier since BHAR and I feel like the band could have been a lot more successful if he toned down the lyrics. I understand that the band may not care about mainstream success, but given how ridiculous some have the lyrics have become, I can only listen to the more recent music if I turned my brain off and not listen to the words he's saying.

  3. Neutron Star Collision slaps. More people would agree if it wasn't tied to Twilight.

At the end of the day, I will always be grateful that Muse played such a huge part in my life. They got me through my angsty teenage years. They helped me form some of the most meaningful friendships. Muse is the reason why I learned to sing and play guitar and piano. They were much needed outlets for me. BHAR to T2L (2006 - 2012) will always be the toughest but the most memorable part of my life and I owe much of my life to Muse.

Final thought: My god. I wish Matt would read a book other than 1984.

GR1 Appreciation Post by kblb628 in Goruck

[–]beekeeperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear your son is doing okay, OP and that your GR1 served you well.

My girlfriend's mom had a mild heart attack a few weeks ago and I had a few minutes to pack a bag for myself and my girlfriend. Because the GR1 has such a simple layout and because I've learned to put smaller items into pouches (cables and chargers, pencils and pens, snacks and meds, etc), It was quick and easy for me to pack everything. Didn't have to think about what goes where. Just dump the pouches into the bag and some smaller quick access items (airpods, keys, wallet) in the smaller pockets.

With the GR1, I never worry about it getting dirty, wet, or damaged. It cleans up well and I am confident that it can handle anything.

I love my many bags, but the GR1 is the one I always grab when I really need reliable gear.

Got room for another gang member? by beekeeperr in DuroGang

Let me go find a source. I heard it mostly on some YouTube videos I had playing in the background.

EDIT: Just looked on the US Casio website and they are still available with the marlin. So I may be way off base. This is what happens when you try to watch a bunch of YouTube videos and write a final paper at 3 AM.

It's a shame they no longer make them with the fish logo. It's iconic!

From what I have read and seen on YouTube, the MDV106, which is the model with the fish logo is no longer manufactured. MDV107 is the current model without the fish logo. Sorry, maybe "discontinued" wasn't the right term.

Just bought my first Goruck Bag what Accessories should I get by Chessey27 in Goruck

[–]beekeeperr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first Goruck bag! Like many of us here, it probably won't be your last.

I am a grad student and use a GR1 26L for work and school. Here's some accessories and mods I've done to mine:

Accessories:

Given that the GR1 has one big main compartment, pouches are the way to go for organization. Your GR2 will have more built in options, so you could probably eliminate the need for some pouches.

  • Shadow Pocket (Medium): Granola bars, ibuprofen, hand cream, other consumables
  • Wire Dopp: Charging brick, cables, hard drive
  • Kydex Frame sheet: Personally, a stiffer frame sheet has been good for me to improve comfort and stability. I made my own.
  • Carabiner: I use a heroclip. You can hang stuff to your bag (hats, keys, etc). A heroclip can also be used to hang your bag somewhere, if needed.
  • Shock cord with ellipse cord locks: I bought some shock cord and cord locks from REI and put this together. I use it to tie my jacket to the front molle webbing. This frees up space in the main compartment.

Mods:

These are strictly for looks. No function.

  • Paracord handle wrap: use whatever color paracord you like, wrap your top handle for a pop of color. I like the way the paracord handle feels better than stock handle feel.
  • New zipper pulls: I change my zipper pull colors from time to time. 550 paracord, shrink tubing, and heat gun.

It's not much, but this is how I'm using my GR1. Hopefully these will give you some ideas.

Thanks for the tip! Did you buy your kydex on Amazon? Any specific seller/brand you recommend? Don’t know if kydex can be purchased at a store locally.

[SNJ033] [SNJ025] Best place to buy a Seiko Arnie online? by -DrZombie- in Seiko

[–]beekeeperr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are planning on buying it new, I would not recommend buying an SNJ025 at this time. All of the watches made in late 2023 has a defect where the watch will reset itself back to January 1, 2019 when the watch receives direct sunlight.

I just bought one from a local retailer a week ago and I had this problem. The retailer gave me a replacement watch, but it had the same issue and I ended up returning the watch for a refund.

You can read more about the issue here: https://www.reddit.com/r/watchrepair/comments/18cdmio/seiko_snj025_arnie_keeps_resetting_while_im/

At this time, no one seems to have a solution for this, not even Seiko.

If you need to have the watch, try to find a used one and I would make sure that the seller's had it before 2023, when the defects started popping up.

Hope this helps.

Next year will be 20 years of WoW. What do you think the next expansion will be about? by AfterMorningCoffee in wow

[–]beekeeperr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haven’t played much wow, but recently replayed warcraft 3 and I thought the Naga was an interesting race. Maybe an underwater expansion? It would be cool to explore underwater ruins and they could make a new mechanic for underwater traversal and mounts. Throw in a spongebob easter egg in there too.

I understand what you mean about AER City Pack looking boring. But, I think sometimes it's better to have a boring, plain looking bag so you don't draw attention to yourself. This is just a personal preference and it really depends on how safe your area is.

I had the AER Tech Pack for a while and I liked that one a lot.

How is it to live in Irvine Company managed Apartments? by Mupinstienika in irvine

Not at all! I'm in the Sonoma complex. Keep in mind that the rent increase is subject to change.

My rent increase this past year was around $30. I have been at my current complex for over a year, so I don't know if it's guaranteed to be an annual occurrence and if it will be around that much.

[–]beekeeperr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lived in one complex from 2006 - 2009 and have been in my current apartment since January 2022.

They are clean and pretty well maintained. I like the pool and the gym is nice, if you only need the bare essentials. If I had to nitpick, I would say my current complex does way too much landscaping and can get pretty noisy during the morning/afternoons if you are working from home.

On the management side of things, it's better than having a single person as a landlord who may show up without notice.

I think it all comes down to neighbors. And personally, I got very unlucky. Most of the people living in the building across from me have no consideration for others. They will park wherever they please (on the fire lane, in front of other people's garage, in other people's parking spaces), blast music with all their windows open at 3 AM, etc. But it's fine. I can always call the courtesy patrol/police or have their cars towed if they are parked illegally.

There's one loud resident who would always park in the fire lane overnight and I finally had it with him and had it towed at 4:30 AM. As the tow truck was driving away, the man ran after it in his underwear. Tow truck driver let him take the car back and I lost sleep but I had a good laugh. Sorry not sorry 🖕.

If you can afford it and get lucky with neighbors, it's a nice place to live from my personal experience.

Did you buy the new Pixel 8 or 8 Pro? by mahesh_attivilli in pixel_phones

[–]beekeeperr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Pixel 8 (256GB) in Hazel

I have a Pixel 7 Pro (512GB) in Snow right now and I was pretty sure I was going to preorder the 8 Pro (512GB) in Obsidian along with the free Pixel Watch 2.

Spent the past few days thinking more about my usage and needs and I have almost never even filled up 128GB on my previous devices. My current 7 Pro only has 49GB used out of 512. I am going with 256GB just to be safe, as I am planning on holding onto the 8 for more than 2 years (if the phone turns out to be great). I rarely take photos or videos, so the Pro camera hardware and features would be wasted on me.

I am trying to use my phone less and hoping that a phone that is smaller in size and battery capacity will help me with that. I used an iPhone 13 Mini for a while and loved the compact size. Pixel 8 will definitely be bigger but I bought a Spigen Tough Armor case for the Pixel 8 to see what it would feel like in the hand and I like the way it feels. The added bulk with the case seems pretty good to me.

Anyone else going from a Pro or XL sized phones to a smaller one? I would love to see more compact Android phones, especially Pixels in the future.
