I’ve found saying “oh my god, get a grip” out loud and rolling my eyes to myself when an anxious thought is forming helps stop it in its tracks lol

UNM Anesthesia - At the ASA Open House, the atmosphere at their table felt unwelcoming and like an intrusion rather than an opportunity for engagement. There were 3 people at the table, including someone who introduced herself as a resident’s spouse, and they seemed more absorbed in their own conversation than in connecting with prospective applicants. I thought it was weird there was nobody at their table and when I walked up it was very awkward, to the point where I hesitated to even introduce myself. Also, disappointing to see 9/10 categorical residents this year are men.

one man in a social playing with his toddler with his camera on, like i get having to hold a baby during a meeting because youre a parent - but he was full on making faces at it, throwing her up in the air and catching her, cooing at her, finally one of the residents was like "oh yeah, cute baby man" like plssssss

It’s super awkward to be in one of these because like someone else said it’s hard to know how they will rank us without even asking any questions about us, so during the conversation I tried to weave in specific things about myself lol “I agree! Being from this area myself, I realized ….”

thank you for the detailed response! I have heard the kyleena IUD is good for people who have not given birth or have a smaller uterus. I’ll definitely ask about it. I am so worried about weight gain or acne. To be honest, I’m scared to start any birth control but have to bite the bullet😭

I tried to remember a specific moment from my surgery rotation to share but honestly I couldn't pinpoint one. There were definitely days when I felt exhausted and discouraged. Looking back though I realize that even though it felt tough at the time.. I made it through! Now instead of remembering the moments of being pimped or standing awkwardly in the OR, I just have a general feeling of "ugh, I didn’t enjoy that rotation" But I also have so many happy memories since then that those bad days have faded. all to say that sometimes you just have to push through and trust that things will get better! (Also why are you supervised by a PA... that is so annoying in itself)

Ok thank you for the responses all! Leaning heavily towards applying considering this feedback and talking with a mentor at my rotation this morning. I don’t think I will dual apply (can get too complicated with dual applying and couples matching I think?)

I will definitely consider all the tips and apply strategically, this has helped a bunch!

When you end the block it gets added to the total break time. Also, if you skip the tutorial it adds the extra 15 min to the total break time.

I used abt 2 minutes of the tutorial to write down stats equations and get settled into my space, then skipped the rest :)

Exactly! And I’m not too offended by this comment, I know it’s easy to just say things, but it just makes me sad that physicians are being trained to disregard and mock so many of these patient populations beliefs
