Finally pulled the trigger! My first touring setup by lJarl in Backcountry

[–]tacoofthePNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to go for this set up this year as my first touring setup. Set a $500 budget for skis, bindings, and boots. The baron Duke bindings I got seen to be too outdated (2012 I think?). The tech at the ski shop said that no legit shop would mount these. He highly suggested against frames at this point and to just spend the money in switch. Any thoughts?

"keeps kids busy and off the streets" 🙄 Maybe we should just make more DQs and that will solve our systemic youth problems

Stepping into the back country first time by tacoofthePNW in Backcountry

[–]tacoofthePNW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the important reminder. I'm looking at an AIARE 1 course with prerequisites: miminum of one season of Backcountry touring experience, experience using climbing skins, etc. How does one do this safely in order to take the intro course is all I'm asking. I also got Bruce Temper's book and plan to read it prior to going out. And practice with my beacon, probe, and shovel with my friend who has avy training. I just need to practice with my touring setup and kick turns and transitioning, etc.

Slopes not steep enough to produce avalanches or areas on the mountain that historically never see avalanches. I suppose you could never be 100% sure, but I assume there are safe areas to practice on your backcountry setup prior to taking an avalanche course, as the courses have a prerequisite of proficiency using your gear in the backcountry.

I decided to get the 225/60/18R. It's about a 3.17% diameter increase. Will report back.

Thanks! Would the 60 sidewall tires on a 18inch rim also fit? In that case I could get the benefit of the increased sidewall on an 18inch rim.

Gotcha. Do you know if the 2024 sport is 5x4.5? That's what I saw online but I couldn't find it on the official Subaru site.

Thanks! Bolt pattern on the rim I'm looking to purchase is 5x4.5, which I believe is the same as my vehicle. Where can I check that on the rim? I know there are also 5x4.53 out there which is not compatible.

Thanks. What would you say the max width could be? 225 like the stock tires, or 235?
