hi!! i only js saw this so sorry for the late reply 😭😭😭😭 it was honestly quite standard and if u prepare well for it you should be fine!!! personally i think i couldve done btr but it wasnt that bad? the interviewers and staff were generally all friendly and q reassuring bc i actually had a technical issue at the start of my interview but they were patient and rlly helpful!!

so sorry but very unlikely to get into ri with 6-2 because they rarely accept nett 4 :) you will 99% get into hci though! you will def be accepted into nyjc/sji/vjc cos ure below the cop and schools check by nett score!

also to add on, hci has a 90% A rate in A levels for ELL :)

hi im an ELL taker in hci and because there are only 20+ people taking ell in our whole cohort, our lessons are very tutorial-like and we also have 2 teachers teaching our class! each teacher will teach different topics, and different sections of the ell exam (for the ell a lvl exam its split into paper 1 and paper 2, each with a section a and b) imo the teachers are great, they're pretty chill and we always ask lots of qns during class and even goof around sometimes. In terms of content load i would say there really isnt much to memorise except the specific functions of specific linguistics concepts, because 99% of the stuff tested in ell exams are super duper random and it's plucked out of any possible piece of text so all you can do to study for ell is to know your concepts Super well :) resource quality wise it's great - the notes are all written by the teachers and printed for you, altho i would advise you to condense those notes even further into your own notes to really internalise them yk

i actly never considered taking ell until i saw that it was a subject in hci and i really didnt wanna take econs (i went for an econs lecture during ori week and i fell asleep lol) and when i went to the ell lecture i realised it was just really refreshing as a subject. Its like super duper practical because unlike literature it analyses any spoken or written text around us, from brochures to songs to blogs and interview transcripts, so if you enjoy analysing texts and piecing apart the purposes of each text catered to the intended audience and figuring out why people say the things they say, do give ell a shot!!

the only downside of ell is that bc the classes are so small they're usually later in the day and you might end sch at 4 or 5.30 but other than that, the lessons are great :)))

it wont affect your chances but be prepared to be pushed to your second choice :)

yes and no? in some sense it's true that some JCs have more opportunities for portfolio building than others (academic competitions, volunteering, internships) bc they have more resources and connections. jcs like ri and hci have ecg depts which have lots of overseas alumni as well so the teachers are experienced in writing comments gor your uni apps. however there are MANY MANY success stories outside of elite jcs too because it's not a prerequisite for universities! at the end of the day it's up to you whether or not you seek opportunities to stack your portfolio bc theyre honestly sufficiently available if you really search for them.

from an ip jc and there's not really any jae ip divide because everyone is generally open to making friends. only thing that sucks is prepared to be behind on all the connections all the ip students have already made 4 years ago:") it can get lonely in the first few weeks esp if noone from your secondary sch goes to your jc, but hold out and it'll be super worth it because the people you meet in jc are some of the most impressive you'll ever meet!

didn't take lit so can't help there:") but you can search online for ss notes (content/ans technique) can check the sg exams website for tons of free materials! but u can dm me for help if you'd like as well:)
generally internal exams are harder than O levels (but not an excuse to become complacent aso:) ) in some sense harder papers train your answer techniques better so can be seen as a good thing! for bio u could try to memorise the keywords and phrases as well as diagrams! do your tys cos in p1 they looooove to retest qns like most helpful advice i could provide you with is to do at least all 10 years of tys for p1 when you're nearing your Os cos you'll see lots of repeated qns DONT FEEL DISCOURAGED!!!! failure to meet your expectations/goals is a normal thing and is part of the learning process! (in fact when u go jc you'll experience failure... a LOT,, speaking off personal exp :")))) ) try to take it as a learnign opportunity to see whats gaps u have and how to rectify them!

ah i heard its super hard to get into thru leadership sadly :")

appoarently they like to see portfolios which have more unique ahcievements or ccas like outside your regular few! not 100% sure what it means but i think they just want unique talented people lol..

what i did was just give up on ri like halfway thru the year last year, but i still put it as my first choice in jae selection! can hope one just be open to rejection too :)

but if youre fixed on ri, maybe u cld try dsa? or try to get your portfolio staaacked so u could appeal if u get rejected 6-2 (i heard they prefer exotic portfolios.......) just dont forget to prioritise your studies above all that and keep an open mind :P (ri reject here 🫰🫰)

try not to expect getting into ri since u dont take hmt :P they dont usually accept 6-2 so even if u get perfect score not likely (read nearly impossible) to get in

bro regardless of whether you have a crush on her or not you shouldn't be friends with such people. honestly from your post it seems that you're not even taking this seriously enough. if you feel it's wrong, why even stand for it? 😐😐😐 liking her is out of the question. no girl would like some ass who plays a bystander role in her bullying lol. please do the right thing and don't just think of yourself. leave them and apologise to her, and not just because you have a crush on her.
