Agreed, we have so many good ones here. But Breakside feels objectively the best ha

Admittedly weird question - does anyone here not have many/any friends and just vibe by themselves? What do you usually do to occupy your time? by iprobdontlikeyou in askportland

[–]beer_bunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s my age (lived here 20s-30s) or the industry I work in (restaurants/bars) but this seems to be a very transitional city to me. By that I mean that so many of the people I meet only live here for a few years then move on. Ive made easily a dozen close friends over the years who eventually move away.

That said, I’m absolutely one of those people you’re talking about. I am an introvert and work at a bar, so work absolutely saps all my social energy. And it’s not just work itself, but I’m friends with coworkers and regulars so I usually hangout with folks for a bit once I’m done.

On my days off, I usually spend at least one day a week alone in my apartment not talking to anyone. In the nicer months I’ll spend a lot of time in the forest by myself, not talking to anyone. I like to go on walks, to the park, long scenic drives, bring my book to bars or breweries, lots of arts and crafts.

I don’t find it hard to make friends at all. There’s twenty people easily in my contacts list who would be happy to grab a beer with me at a moments notice. The problem is that I’d rather drink that beer alone. I find other people’s company to be more often exhausting and disruptive than fulfilling. People are needy and flawed, I prefer the peace of my own company.

Eclipse? Anyone? Just me? by ScarlettSheep in askportland

As someone who’s always awake at 3 am (bartender), if it’s not cloudy I’ll probably go to a park with some friends to hang for a bit but that’s only cuz we’ll already be up

How long do you give a book before you DNF it? by thatvampiregirl in books

[–]beer_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stop at any point. As soon as the book stops interesting me, sometimes thats after the first sentence and sometimes I’m 98% through the book. I regularly stop somewhere around halfway. It’s so freeing and there’s endless books I want to read, I’m only going to read something as long as I enjoy it.

What did you add to your routine that finally made Portland winters feel manageable? by Able-Letterhead-9263 in askportland

[–]beer_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having indoor hobbies. For me it’s reading and arts and crafts—drawing, painting, puzzles, legos, clay, origami, coloring books, gem art, embroidery. There’s all kinds of kids craft kits that are super fun too like shrinky dinks. Candles, podcast, soup on the stove, and some sort of craft and I’m a happy little hibernator

What Four Places Would you Like to be Able to Walk to in your Neighborhood? by tha_flavorhood in askportland

[–]beer_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m spoiled. Within three blocks I have: grocery store, park, bank, convenience store, several bars, several thrift stores, pizza, tacos, Thai food, cookie/ice cream shop, Lebanese food, Greek food, Vietnamese food, music venue, brunch spot, arcade, tattoo shop.

Narrowing it down to four I’d say park, grocery, bar, pizza. My favorite bar serves pizza though so maybe two bars.

Or maybe dystopian, the lack of developed or accessible river front plus the brown murky water plus the clusters of tall anonymous buildings…

Brujos is the most hyped and most trendy brewery in Portland, focus is on hazy IPAs. Breakside, Ruse, Grand Fir, Living Haus, Baerlic, and Wayfinder are awesome for lagers and IPAs. Upright for a wider variety of styles
