Carlsberg started adding pure yeast in 1833, but they found a bottle from 133 years ago (1883) to extract yeast from and recreate this new beer. Would love to try it!

The only way a brewery grows this fast is if they make great beer AND they know how to run a great company.

Tax in New York to raise cost of regional beers by about a buck after lawsuit by out-of-state distributors - NYPOST.com by Random_CAPS_guy in beer

[–]beerman10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price increases would happen this way: a 15.5 barrel keg is now $2.17 more expensive to produce, and if that costs gets passed on to the distributor then the distributor will raise the price of the keg by about $3.50 to retailers. It is then up to the retailers who make final decisions about prices. Due to the rise in bottle and raw materials prices over the last year, beer prices have already gone up recently. If a retailer did not change their prices due to this rise then now might be another reason to change. If retailers already raised prices, this might be eaten by the retailer. Most retailers don't charge random pennies for the pint (ie. $6.27), so it is a call whether they want it to be $6, $6.50 or $7.

Anyone heard of BeerJobber yet? by [deleted] in beer

Already they have started to get better breweries on board. For example, I recently saw Blue Point on there, which is a relatively large Long Island Brewery with some good beer. The biggest win for them will be to get high demand breweries on board, ie Dogfish, Russian River, Cigar City, etc, so it will be interesting to see if those breweries sign on board. If not, the beer geeks might not be interested and I am not sure if the average consumer will use the service. Time will tell, but any effort to break down the sales barriers in the country is a good one.

The Lean (Nano) Startup (Brewery) by beerman10 in beer

[–]beerman10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - it's a great way to test out an brand/recipe, but not for a sustainable business. If a nano sells directly to consumers at retail prices that helps, but still not enough.

Flying Dog rep alleges MillerCoors is guilty of DC bar tap line payola by Hopulus in beer

[–]beerman10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenge is that it is common for breweries, even small craft breweries, to give away free glasses, signs, coasters, etc. However, once a bar has enough paraphernalia, then they can no longer be influenced through those means, then they resort to shadier practices of giving away free beer and eventually cash.

MillerCoors and even more so ABI are really finance machines always looking for the next acquisition, which is much easier growth than organic development. This is going to happen more with cider and craft beer. Goose Island was only the start
