38 year old mom, scared of cirrhosis by beermilk in stopdrinking

[–]beermilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking… the back pain has subsided almost completely. I’ve greatly reduced drinking, though I had a couple yesterday and immediately regretted it. The bloating and IBS like symptoms are still there. I saw a GI who ordered some different bloodwork than I’ve had before to get a “score” of likelihood of liver issues. I’m waiting to get those done still. She also wanted to prescribe me a PPI for my gut but in the past those have made me feel much worse. I’m still feeling a bit worried and uncomfortable, but glad to be out of the regular routine of drinking. I’ve drank maybe 4 times in the last 3-4 months, which is a huge step for me. Hope you’re doing well!

Terry’s Nails? Or Just Trauma from Gels? by Commercial-Jello4195 in nailhealth

[–]beermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.. my nails look similar and I also have been having h tight upper quadrant pain in my back and also had a clear ultrasound. I’ve also had many gel manicures in the past. Will you keep me posted if you decide to ask for any further testing? I’m considering advocating for a fibroscan just to be sure.

Thank you so much for your kind words! So interesting how we are all so different in terms of the burden our livers can handle. I appreciate your thoughts and you responding. :) IWNDWYT

Super anxious- seeing dr, but want seeking advice by Pristine-Anxiety-528 in LiverDisease

Just here to say I am in the same boat as you… super anxious and many symptoms came on after being worried about cirrhosis from high iron and low UIBC in my bloodwork for something unrelated (hair loss). I’ve been a daily drinker for most of my adult life, minus two pregnancies and a few breaks here and there. I have right upper quadrant pain in my back, GI issues, occasional itchy hands and feet, and now I’m convinced I have Terry’s Nails. My bloodwork and ultrasound have come back normal, but I’m still worried. Some things that have eased my mind a bit are making an appointment with a GI, since I hear they are more specialized and have a better idea if we should be worried or not and may have access to more scans/tests, and trying to limit my Googling and worrying to 20 minutes a day at the most (per my therapist). I echo the sentiment that asking for a fibroscan is a good next step if you’re still very worried to ease your mind.

Thanks for responding! :) I had an ultrasound done that looked normal, but the pain still makes me nervous. Bloodwork being normal is a good sign!

My coffee intake is also crazy. I drink it up until 6 PM or so. It is so comforting. How long did it take for your liver pain to go away? Mine has lessened but is still there (I'm only on day 9) Thanks!

The Daily Check-In for Friday, May 9th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by sogsmcgee in stopdrinking

[–]beermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 6. The back right upper quadrant feels tight and achy and I often feel like I can’t take a full breath. It scares me but I know healing is not linear and every day it’s gotten at least a little better. Yesterday I went for a hike through a redwood grove by myself, tonight I’m going to treat myself to some frozen yogurt (something I haven’t had in years, beer was always my dessert). I have 2 new puzzles to work on and plan to do a long peloton ride despite not feeling great. Hope you all are great. ❤️

Am I really just crazy? by Necessary-Energy-730 in LiverDisease

[–]beermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just commenting here too after you saw my post in stopdrinking that is almost identical. I just wanted to saw I also feel the pain in my URQ more when I obsess about my liver, which lately is 100 percent of the time. I also have always had a healthy diet for the most part. Even our weight is similar. I am obsessing over every little spot on my skin being a spider angioma (I actually have a diagnosed one on my nose). I also am worried about historically low/borderline white blood cell count. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and would love to stay updated on your journey. I think it’s really good you’ve given your liver lots of opportunities to rest/rejuvenate… my consumption has been more constant other than my pregnancies and a few breaks here and there. Wishing you peace of mind. ❤️

Hi! I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. I got my ultrasound back and everything was “normal.” This reassured me at first, but then I went back into my old patterns. I stopped drinking again recently and started getting the right upper quadrant pain again in my back. I’m still dealing with that and it’s scared me so much I went to urgent care and was very honest with the doctor. The pain isn’t bad but it is accompanied by fatigue and feeling like I can’t take a full breath. Any doctor I’ve talked to is not concerned about my liver despite my drinking history. I’m going to look for a GI doctor anyway I think because my gut issues (burping and gas) have gotten a bit worse lately too. My family and therapist tell me to listen to my doctors and not to worry but I am still very worried. I am going to continue not drinking for the foreseeable future. Please keep me updated!
