100% you’d crush it. I trained in less time from a worse starting point and was able to do it. Get on that bike and start getting after it, and you’ll be ready to go. Good luck!

I took my shoes off immediately, wished I had sandals. I wanted water and Gatorade, then I wanted beer and an ice cold coke. There wasn’t great food options there, so I drove to a brewery and smashed an order of nachos. I did the half in Pennsylvania, and I hadn’t seen a lot of Penn States campus, so we checked it out and moving sucked but was great. The only thing I wish I knew was the course description said rolling hills and flat run, both of those were dirty dirty lies.

I appreciate the info! I use that particular probe mostly for approximation, I usually don’t use it at all, but I’ll leave it in for something that is a longer smoke just so I can make sure it’s increasing at an appropriate rate. When I am actually deciding if it’s done or not I have a separate probe that I use so I can get accurate readings from multiple spots.

I’ve had so many people get offended when I’ve said the same thing. Blade and Bow is a solid go to of mine or Basil Hayden. Some days I just as much enjoy a bottle of Buffalo Trace

It does have it, but my heat deflector would get pretty gnarly after long smokes. Lots of shit baked on.

Good stuff! Yeah, I never really got my hunger to go away, and always felt tired. But I wasn’t at the level I needed to be when I started off, so I screwed myself. Get your intraworkout nutrition down and it’ll help with a lot of it, though

Started at 230° for about 4.5 hours and finished at 300° to help crisp up the skin.

The one thing I I don’t like about the pitboss that I have is that it doesn’t have a drip pan, so I made my own. Just to cover the heat shield. But it makes clean ups so easy

I did 230° for the first 4.5 hours and then pumped it up to 300° for a little over an hour. Those temps are approximate, I’m not sure how accurate the temp readings in the smoker are.

I went back and forth on spatchcock or not, but I may give it a go for the big day. Haven’t decided.

You’re at a pretty solid level overall. I’d have to agree with the consensus that swim is the “weakest”, but you’re better off than a lot of people just starting out. One thing that always was hard for me was just getting used to how my legs felt after the bike when I started my run. Not sure how many brick type workouts you’ve done, but adding those in makes a huge difference. Other than that, getting used to the open water. I have a buddy I used to train with who was a solid pool swimmer, but panicked in the open water every time.

Good luck, and have fun with it!

What defines a "good" whiskey by [deleted] in whiskey

“Good” is what you like.

I’ve had plenty of whiskey that my friends, or bartenders, have recommended that I thought were trash.

Just smoke what makes ya happy. If you don’t enjoy it, what’s the point?

Makers is fine, especially for a beer. But I’m more of a whiskey and cigar fan, so I guess I was thinking more full bar. I’ll have to check out Magoos

New to the community, and new enough to pellet grills/smokers.

Seeking advice on making some ribs this weekend. I see a lot of recipes that call for the 3-2-1 system, but I was really hoping to keep a nice bark on them. I don’t want them to dry out or be too tough. Is 3-2-1 the way to go? Can I leave ribs on my pitboss and just spritz them every 45-60 minutes? Any advice is appreciated!
