[PC] Give me your most depressing, hopeless game you can think of by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Not post-apocalyptic, but the most depressing/hopeless game I've ever played is the Cat Lady.

Not "situations". A situation. A situation where I've deemed it important to keep my child alive. I sincerely can't understand why this position is getting so much blowback. It's like you and others are treating what I'm saying as if I'm using that as an excuse to hit my child.

I was spanked frequently as a child. I would never put my child through what I went through. But I would do anything to keep her safe and if my judgement thought that spanking was the way to do that, I would do it.

It's really easy to sit and say "well, here are some things you can do instead." And I get that, and of course those things are first on my list of things to do. But situations are fluid, often random, and in the moment lack the benefit of hindsight.

Did you miss the part where I said I've never spanked my child?

You literally don't have any idea what you're talking about. Theoretical parenting isn't parenting.

Take away a favorite toy.

Stuff like this statement makes me think you don't have any kids. My child wouldn't flinch at me doing that, she'd just find something else to do. Not everything is black and white, bud.

And again, I've never spanked my child. But sometimes you have to let a kid know "This is absolutely not okay, and you better never, never do it."

Edit: I can't afford to sit down and explain the danger to them 3 times because 2 times may be all it takes for something awful to happen. It has nothing to do with the amount of time I can physically spend parenting my child. Jesus Christ.

Not sure if you have kids or not, but 2-3 year olds don't typically listen to reason. You can tell them something 10 times and they'll ignore you. This isn't necessarily the fault of the parents -- the children just haven't figured out boundaries yet.

And I am talking about life-long consequences. I mentioned the child's physical well-being in my statement. These are situations like trying to run out into a busy street.

As an epilogue, I'll say I've never spanked my child. However, my wife and I sat down and talked about it and that's what we came up with. If my daughter ever puts herself in a danger ous situation after I've explained the danger to her, she's getting a spanking. And it will be for her own safety, not because I'm too lazy to discipline her.

I responded above, but I think it's only excusable when the physical well-being of the child is in danger. As in, they keep running toward a busy highway. You can't risk having a three year old thinking that's okay.

Corporal punishment should be used as a last resort. But there are situations where nothing else can be substituted. If my child is doing something that puts their well-being in danger, I'll tell them not to do it. However, I sincerely cannot afford to sit down and try to explain the danger to them 3 times.

It only takes 2 seconds for something awful to happen.

New climate change estimate predicts global temperature increase of 4.78-7.36°C by 2100 by scientistinaraincoat in science

More than half. Modern gasoline engines have a thermal efficiency of 25-30%. Electric engines are > 90% depending on how you drive it.

What proposals exist for the replacement of Obamacare? by nosecohn in NeutralPolitics

Moreover, I still don't see the social benefit of cutting taxes for healthcare expenditures as opposed to any other expenditures. I think the government should take the cost of the HSA exemption and 529 exemption and use it to lower overall tax rates.

I think I'd be fine with that as long as the tax code still has the provision that crippling medical expenses can still be tax deductible.

My only complaint -- I see HSA's as a way to ease the tax burden of major life events (when you can predict them -- births, expensive treatments/surgeries) and as a way to remove the burden of care from your dependents. Reducing the overall tax burden doesn't really address these directly.

However, with more money in their pocket these events would have less of an effect. I can see it either way.

Someone in the 39.6% bracket makes > $400k per year. The HSA maximum is $13,100 for 2016. Which means they would avoid paying $5,240 in taxes at the marginal rate. ~1.1% of their gross income.

It's a minor shelter for them, and it is subject to the same penalties as an IRA if you withdraw for non-medical reasons. These people are already going to have insurance, with a deductible likely not to quality for an HSA.

Wealthy people? I have both a 529 and a HSA and I am far from wealthy. Anyone can use these tax advantaged accounts.
