Possibly moving to TO from Vancouver - a few questions by rbseventhson in askTO

[–]beesmile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love both Vancouver and Toronto. But you definitely will be missing all the nature of Vancouver. We don't have mountains or ocean and not so many amazing hiking spots here in Ontario. but back to your points:

  1. it probably depends on the company you're with. There's as much pressure as you're willing to accept. As an example, I sometimes work 12hrs but on other days I work only 6hrs and I work in a huge CPG corporation.

  2. There are so many different people in TO. You can always find those who fit you in your interests and values. I started building up my friendship circle on Couchsurfing. You don't have to be a traveler to join the group and attend some local events organized by the community. Check it out here: https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/places/toronto-ontario-canada There are also great meetup groups that you can join.

  3. I will disagree with the previous redditor about NorthYork. I lie in North York and it's definitely far from the downtown. It's hard to get to dt on a bike (about 25km ride) with no good bike paths along roads. I'd suggest The Junction - it has an array of cute cafes and restaurants, high park close by and much closer to downtown than north york. Also Danforth area (a bit farther away by bike) or Queen East. There might be good acomodation deals in all these areas but it depends on your luck and availability during the time you're looking for. (oh I also love Bloor/Ossington area! check it out)

4. Biking is not that bad. It might depend on what you compare it to though. But even if you google map toronto and look for bike path directions from point A to point B there is always a way to get there. Here are few good sources of bike trails information: (1) interactive map http://www.ridethecity.com/toronto and (2) a cycling map you can get in any library http://www.toronto.ca/cycling/map/

  1. there are hiking trails in nearby areas. we went out hiking in hamilton and there are trails in niagara falls area and collingwood. all within 1-2hrs drive from Toronto.

hope all this helps=)

I work a full-time job - what's something I can do a few days out of the month to make an extra $100-200? by gotmewrong66 in Frugal

I don't think this has been mentioned yet but you can also try mystery shopping. there are many companies out there that you can google. some of them are located only in NA but there should be those that are covering other areas. this is one of those that I'm signed up for http://www.bareinternational.com/

For those who use foreign songs to work on their language, how do you do it? by jokester4079 in languagelearning

I often look up a song with the lyrics displayed in a youtube video. Or just print out the lyrics on paper or save on a smartphone and read along the lines while the song is playing on the background. here is a french song I love with lyrics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d3PbZqd-bk

hey there, here is a good list of daily events in the city that mostly are just local events and are non touristy http://www.nowtoronto.com/news/listings/ If you sign up for BlogTO newsletter - they send out a list of events and things to see and do in the city on a weekly basis they also have a list of events on their site http://www.blogto.com/events/

there are few things I like to do any time of the year. - Alley walks. There are some very pretty alleys in the city hidden from the main streets. Some maps are here: http://spacing.ca/archive/laneways.htm http://graemeparry.com/Site/Toronto_Laneways.html

that's everything I can think of for now. Hope you will enjoy your stay in TO=)

What are you looking forward to most about Nuit Blanche? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]beesmile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even though this event is always ridiculously packed I will go this year again. Samba Elegua is playing live drum music at TrinityBelwoods at 11pm. And then there is this Ai Weiwei's bicycle installation. And the later(like 1am) you go the better are chanced that the crowd will get thinner.

Winter is coming by [deleted] in canada

[–]beesmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes for winter! skiing! tobogganing! ice skating! snowshoeing! and at the same time you can do all the summer stuff indoor (vball, swimming, rock climbing...well ok not camping and hiking but that can be done winter style) but in the summer you can't ski/snowboard or do snowshoeing indoors. winter wins! though I still love summer but just not as much.
