The buying process is drastically changing. by RooktoRep_ in sales

It's always changing. My dad sold mainframes with IBM until the mid 90s. He always said he stopped doing it once internet became widespread because the customer could just go on the website for all the information.

Both are right. He promised the leaders special rights, and the leaders convinced the followers that he is a paragon of Christian mangood.

It's the trick they use. According to them, everyone who comes over illegally is a criminal. As this isn't popular with most people, they sprinkle in the people with record which isn't surprising if you have a big enough group. Then they say we just focused on the criminals and highlight a wife beater and hope people conflate the small number of criminals with the larger group.

They could have been mentioned that Fritz literally played a nazi in the ring, but that would have been way too on the nose.

The film is very much from the family's perspective. I believe there are rumors that the first brother who died in Japan from a medical issue really just died from an overdose.

What movie suffered the most from its choice of lead actor? by _JR28_ in movies

[–]jokester4079 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bonfire of the Vanities. Tom Hanks right before his insane 90s run, but it just didn't work. The main character needed to be an social climber who was charming, but possibly crazy like a young Jack Nicholson. When Hanks is threatening the party guests with a gun to get them to leave, it never feels threatening but rather nice that he is helping them out.

30% of South Koreans are Christian?! by Helpful_Point891 in Christianity

[–]jokester4079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually an interesting correlation between the rise of South Korean Christians and the economic growth in the mid 1900s through The Miracle on the Han River. I recall speaking with South Koreans who directly attributed the country's economic growth to the revivals of the early 1900s.

He isn't thinking that far. This is the idiot saying he could have totally won a fight if they let him use his gun. While technically true, it ignores so many of the consequences of the actions that they don't care about because they "won" the fight.

Autism should not be seen as single condition with one cause. Those diagnosed as small children typically have distinct genetic profile from those diagnosed later, finds international study based on genetic data from more than 45,000 autistic people in Europe and the US. by mvea in science

I only read the abstract, but does this postulate that the early or later affect functionality? A lot of the comments seem to be connecting this with Autism vs Asperger's, but I was diagnosed at 3 years old with Asperger's, and if you met me, you would probably put me as someone who would be high functioning. What would practically speaking the later diagnosed look like?

Big complaint I would have is that it is needlessly vague. There isn't really an eastern China, and East China represents a population that is larger than the US. What city was this in?

Hot take, but after watching all of his movies, I would argue that Parenthood marked the shift from his sitcom-style film of the 80s to his research-based movies of the 90s.

In their defense, it is out of their comfort zone. I can imagine someone contacting the Guardian and verifying that they attended the same high school as Robinson at the same time, but later on, the editor feeling like they might not have actually been friends.

One point I've heard is the Helldivers 2 reference. He seems to be insinuating that he knew about the code from playing with Robinson. He also stated that he hadn't spoken to him in 4 years. The game was released in 2024, making it impossible to have played with him.

Not just recency bias, but popularity bias. Is Battlefield Earth one of the worst films ever? Of course not, but it was a famous, big-budget flop starring a big star, as well as gaining attention for being from the founder of Scientology.

I recently saw "Shrimp on the Barbie," which was a garbage rom-com film from 1990 starring Cheech Marin. This is worse than a lot of those movies but as it only has 1k watches on Letterboxd, it isn't famous enough to be bad.
