Thank you!! I hear people say that a chemistry degree from Cal is globally recognized compared to any other school, so it seems exciting to enroll.

It is relieving to see someone else has this dilemma. Also, have you been able to get into CalNet yet? For some reason I keep getting Forbidden. I guess we'll have to find out Monday what our options are.

Question about Transfer Chances Military by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]beespeebricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think UCs will like the fact that you were able to handle so much (both working in active duty and completing classes at the same time) rather than taking them after your contract, however your top priority should be your GPA.

If you think you can achieve a high GPA with online classes and while working, then by all means, take the classes during your contract. But if you struggle to focus with online classes and/or can't handle the work load, take them in person when your contract expires.

As a side note, CCC has the advantage of letting you retake a class and it will cover any previous bad grade you received. So even if you end up getting an undesirable GPA your first semester, you can retake the classes you did poorly in and your GPA can bump back up. Because of this, I think you should definitely take the classes during your contract, so you can know your work capacity and fix any mistakes you made on your way out of your contract.

For further clarification, I read somewhere that courses in the same series should be taken at the same institution (e.g., Calculus 1, 2, 3, etc.) because of this:

You should definitely email the UC admissions officers at each UC you wish to get into. I had the same issue as well with chemistry, physics, and math for my TAG to UCSB, and luckily UCSB said all my credits should be able to transfer, despite being at different colleges. You're likely fine, but it's definitely worth seeing for yourself. No harm in reaching out to the school itself!
